^^^ True. There is a huge difference in quality between DVD and HD-DVD/Blu-Ray, BUT, the difference won't be as noticeable on a smaller TV. On a 40"+ TV, the difference is so clear, it's like night and day - Just more clarity.

Regular DVD's look pretty damn good on my LCD tv already. I see what you're saying however but the difference isnt as big. Burn on!!
WHAT U SAY IS TRUE, PLUS BLU DVD PLAYERS RUN FROM 1,200 - 800 DOLLARS AND HD PLAYERS GO FOR 500 DOLLARS PLUS THE DAMN BLU-RAY/HD DVDS RUN FROM 25 - 35 DOLLARS , I THINK I'MMA STICK WITH REGULAR DVDS FOR A WHILE UNTIL GETTING A BLU-RAY OR HD PLAYER WILL BE MANDATORY. AS A MATTER OF FACT I WAS IN BEST BUY YESTERDAY AND MY MANG THAT WORKS THERE TOLD ME TO GET AN UPCONVERSION DVD PLAYER TO USE ON THE HD TV THAT I HAVE, IT WON'T GIVE HD/BLU-RAY QUALITY, BUT IT WILL BE ALOT BETTER THAN THE DVD PLAYER THAT I HAVE NOW, IT'S CHEAPER(I THINK IT'S ABOUT 120 FOR IT) PLUS I CAN HOOK THE HDMI CONNETION UP WHICH WILL HELP EVEN MORE SO I'LL BE GOOD FOR A WHILE

Just a few of a HUGE collection. I have 400+ movies

big up to Boondock Saints..I love that movie. "for one day, you will see we three and on that day, we will send you to whatever god you believe in.." or something like that..one of those cult flick that is pretty underrated.

I thought regular dvd's are at 480p??? you need an upconvert dvd player to fill in the lines to get 720p from regular dvd's. I might be wrong, but i have 2 upconvert dvd players but not sure what they're upconverting from, so i assume 480p or 1080i.

Also, with all this blue-ray and HD hype. Don't forget that your picture is only as good as the TV's capability to process the image. Without a 1080p tv, blue-ray is useless . you're better off with a HD player which does 720p. and if you don't even have 720p, go buy a VHS player and a pair of 3D glasses!! haha

It's sorta like "which come first? the chicken or the egg?" , personally, I wouldn't buy 1080p until i have a device that can output that (i know john got a ps3..). 1080p isn't mainstream enough for you to hope on yet, IMO. Unless all you do is watch DVDs(and can afford the blue ray) and or play ps3, 720p(which i consider is mainstream) is much more pratical. Not worth the extra money to get 1080p. Don't mean to sidetracked from the original topic..haha

1080p and HD are gonna become the standard in the next few years, and so is Blu ray or HD-DVD (which ever one wins the race). Just like all technology, out with the old and in with the new. Its just a matter of time, they will stop producing regular tvs and dvds. My friends had huge collections of VHS... sucked for them.

As far as mp3s go, they wont replace CDs because the quality is worse even though the size of mp3s made em popular. Soon enough size wont be a problem, im sure ipod is gonna have very large amount of space available on their players. Large files wont be a problem due to fiber optics that allow 20mbs downloads.

Technology never goes backwards...
