aye john, sine u have a DLP, when u watch dvds on your dvd player, do they show up HD clear or it just shows up regular, cuz i'm thinking of getting an hd dvd player, but i don't wanna pay 25 dollars for a dvd, or it might be the r/g/b connection i'm using...i don't know

 

it does take advantage of progressive scan and uses the full display for viewing DVDs if thats what you mean. Regular DVDs look really good on the TV. I couldnt justify the purchase other than a ps3, but the HD disc formats produce beautiful movies.

 

HD dvd isnt doing too well in the war vs blu ray... the only company that exclusively release movies for hd-dvd now is universal. while fox, disney, mgm, tri star, and columnbia are all blu-ray only... meaning mega sellers like pirates of carribean, spiderman etc are blu-ray only.

but unless you have a 1080p tv, blu-ray or hd-dvd just dosnt look significantly better than regular dvd. if your tv cant do 1080p then dont bother because itd be a waste of money.

a 1080i/720 tv has 1366x768 pixels or about 1.05 million pixels
a 1080p tv has 1920x1080 pixels.. about 2.07 million pixels which is around twice as many as 1080i/720p. blu-ray and hd-dvd are made for 1080p tvs.

 

ok, so i'm now noticing that my dvd player has progressive scan, so how do I turn that feature on???

 

switching it to 720p or 1080p turns on progressive scan

in most cases you should be able to use your remote to select the video mode for your dvd player.

ive been running vista for a month or so, its really resource intensive and makes my computer run a lot slower. office 2007 is real tight though, much better than office 2003. biggest improvement in Office between versions

i have it at home, im using it now on my laptop, it runs slow because its a resource hog. it has a much larger memory footprint compared to XP. my laptop is not fast but its not slow either, centiruno 1.8GHZ single core. you will need a pretty new computer to run it real well.

*this part probably pretains more to pratik than anyone else here.. I havnt really dug into it yet, just playing around with it, but I can already see some big chances that will come with .NET 3.0 everything from the underlying framework to how runtime works to how front end works to stuff like data adapters are going to be different, in an interesting good way to play around with. Im just hoping really bad that they optimized the garbage collection because in 2.0 especially for C#, its pretty inefficient and leak prone.

 

The biggest change in Framework 3.0 is the built-in Microsoft workflow. I had already created a 1-2 step workflow process in my C# application using the old 1.1 framework however now I can just implement MS's version and its a big improvement. If you're able to upgrade I'd do so sooner than later to be up with the times.

As for Vista, I'm just not impressed just yet. Still lots of driver issues. It couldn't even recognize some simple USB devices I threw at it. I know that'll come in time. The 3D desktop feature is pretty cool and it is a resource hog however nowadays you gotta pay to play for the good stuff. I have a couple laptops, one of which is a dual core with 2 GB RAM and of course it runs fine on that. Other is a Pentium M 1.86 with 1.5 GB RAM and it runs pretty well on that too. As long as you got decent specs on both of those you should be fine with Vista. And yeah, Office 07 is the ish.

 

dot net 3.0 is released? I was thinking there should be a new version of visual studio that comes out along with 3.0.. at least thats what ive been waiting for? im trying to have my company send me to take some classes for the new 3.0 stuff...

 

.Net 3.0 has been released for a few months now. VS 2005 is what you'd use with it.
