Yeah that shyt was sad when I first heard it. But to be killed by a Stingray....thats crazy. there are only 3 reported deaths by a stingray worldwide. Those are some crazy odds. The worst thing is that he just had a little girl.

Another thing is that he died instantly. Stingrays not only have that barb at the end of their tale, but it releases a poisonous neurotoxin into the system which there is NO antidote for currently.

Researchers said that he would have probably lived another 3-4 min if he had not pulled the barb out of his chest. but because he did, it made the hole in his chest/heart bigger and he died instantly

This is a very sad and tragic event

the poison is not deadly. if you got stung by a string ray on the foot or leg for example, you would be in mild pain and go to the hospital but you would be ok. it was the fact that he got stung in the heart that turned out to be deadly.

Wasnt so much the sting at all, rather the fact that the "stinger" acted like a 10 inch dagger piercing his heart.

^^Are you sure, a researcher sad that it was a poisonous neurotoxin and that there is no cure for it.

I'm sure getting pierced in the heart had a big part to play in this situation

There isn't a cure for it because it isn't that big a deal, so no one takes the time to milk rays and develop an anti-toxin.

I've been stung in the foot before when diving (or rather when wading out to dive), it definitely sucks, but in terms of venom its not even as bad as being bitten by a rattlesnake.

yeah, sting ray toxin isnt deadly. it literally made a big hole in his heart, thus causing his death. what are the odds.
