More on the Nissan+Renault buying GM share deal
The idea of using GM plants to manufacture Nissan vehicles in order to increase Nissan output while stemming GM layoffs is very interesting. My only concern would be the quality decline that could occur with US factories in the mix. We've already seen the problems that the plant in Mississippi is having with the Titan/Armada/QX56.
I agree, that the American made Nissans/Infinitis have been plagued with quality issues. But its hard to really pin point the real factor that causes this, because Toyota and Honda have had great success in building cars in the US and Mexico.
So the real underlying issue might be a lot more than just building cars in the US.
If they can figure it out and emulate Toyota's success then I think it will benefit both Nissan and GM greatly. though realistically i still dont think this alliance is going to take place.

all the FM platformed cars are built in Japan, that includes g, M, FX. From my understanding there is no factory in the US capable of producing FM platformed cars. though not 100% sure.

i meant, plants here are not equipted to produce the platform. if they bring over the equiptment and build or convert an old plant, then they should be able to make FM cars in the US.

Supposedly the talks are coming about just because the major shareholder of GM stock is proposing the deal, which basically means the board ahs to review the proposal. It doesn't mean they will actually go through with it, they just have to review the proposal.
