I'm looking to take mine on a road course this year. I've been driving cars on tracks for years but I've never driven an G37x. Just curious if anyone has taken one on a road course, their feedback, how the car held up. Etc. I didn't plan to do any modifications aside from tires, pads, and fluids.

 

While I've driven FM-platform cars (350Z and 370Z) on road racing tracks across the country, I've never taken my G37xS out. Why? Mostly weight, tires and brakes. Don't want to spend the money to upgrade what is essentially a luxury sedan. If you plan to take this on, start with upgrading the brake fluid and pads first. Front tires are sure to get shredded if you know how to drive, so maybe consider a set of track only tires and wheels. Which road circuit are you going to?

 

Summit point, dominion, njmp, pocono, and pitt race. Curious why you say the fronts will get shredded first?

 

Way late to post this, but for others curious - and as Dkmura said - the bare minimums for a safe and fun track day with the G platform include upgrading to braided brake lines, better brake fluid, and better pads. The OEM setup will fail eventually, and it’s not a matter of if but when during road course events. Sadly Nissan didn’t offer a track-pack equivalent that included some of these things. The VQ is also known for overheating on the track without use of an additional oil cooler (most go at least 34 row Setrab for track, myself included). Make sure all hoses and fluid connections are in good shape. These are great cars and motors with a little TLC. Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade if they are planning to track it stock, but to do it safely it does need a few mods.

 

Sorry to reply so late to this, but I just caught this question. The FM platform cars were designed to understeer at the limit, and will generally put more wear on the front tires at most circuits. Depending on whether it's a clockwise or counter-clockwise track, the car will pivot on the LF or RF tire more and wear will increase the more laps are put on. The more experience and skill a driver has will also accelerate tire wear as they push the car to its limits.
