So I want to take my g37 on the track to really see what this baby can do but idk what track to go to since everytime I try to google it it just gives me drag strips. Does anyone know of some tracks I can go to on the east coast specifically near Maryland and the surrounding states?

Not to be rude but this was a question asking people who have experience tracking their car around this area for a more definitive and straightforward answer with spots they've gone to themselves. As I said earlier I tried googling it and I'm all it did was give me drag strips and left me confused so you giving me a link to something I already googled isnt helpful. You didn't specify experience with tracks . Nor did you specify how technical of a track you're looking for. I did barber motorsports years ago on the bike, but that's quite a ways from MD.

My mistake I apologize. I'm looking for a track that I can just bring my car to and just drive laps around. I'm still new to this so I dont want anything fancy just a place that's at least less than 3 hours away from md and doesn't require heavy modification prior to tracking your vehicle. I really want to push my g37x to the limits and see how it does around corners and overall just have fun.

 

Google "road race tracks near maryland". Seems an obvious thing to do.

One of the hits is a Wikipedia page. On it is a link to road tracks in America. You can sort the state column and see what's near you. I've driven the Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point. Haven't tried the track in southern New Jersey but it looks interesting.

One important thing to realize is you don't just drive up to a track entrance and get permission to drive there. Well, I suppose a donation of several tens of thousands of dollars might work. Normally, though, you find an organization that has hired the the track for a day or two and sign up to drive with them. SCCA Track Night in America is one, NASA runs HPDEs across the country, Porsche and BMW clubs do it and take anyone with real money, The Driver's Edge, Chin Track Days, etc., etc., etc. Each track usually has a web site with a calendar of events that will list who's hosting run-what-you-brung driver education sessions. Sign up on the organizer's web page or follow instructions for signing up. Note that you will most likely have to pay for an instructor for your first few events with a group until they decide you are competent to drive solo.

 

Don't know what part of MD you're in, but there is Pittsburgh International Race Complex in the Beaver, PA area.

Change the settings to your liking, and sort on the side by stuff you want to do. It will list organizers for you to sign up with. I'm unfamiliar with the East cost organizers, so you'll want to reach out to them for more information.

 

Most marques have track days, that towards the end of the registration period open up to any marque of car. I've run a lot of HPDEs with Alfa and Porsche clubs at VIR in a Mazda.

Also - bit of a drive, but VIR. Seriously.

 

What part of Maryland?

Summit Point Raceway is in Summit Point, West Virginia. Just outside Winchester, VA. The track itself runs 'Friday at the Track', on select Friday's throughout the year. Very reasonable and they have instructors in the car, and classroom sessions. Ask the pool of instructors if they race. IMO, they are better than just track day guys. If you are even more serious, send me a message and I will put you in touch with exceptional quality private instructors in that area. I have thousands of laps on that track, but I'm a little far to help personally.

IF you're in western Md, there's Pittsburgh as mentioned above. Other's not too far are New Jersey Motorsports Park, Virginia International Raceway, Pocono Raceway, Watkins Glen

I know SCCA runs 'Track Night in America' It's generally a few hours at the end of the day at a track. They run multiple events all over the country. The local club regions also sometimes hold 'High performance driving events.' (HPDE) You'd have to check their online schedules. There are other organizations that run events at tracks, such as Porsche club and Bmw club, IIRC they do have open days, but I'm not sure about that. There are also others, unfortunately they seem to come and go. Pick the track that you want to go to and look at their schedule, it will usually list several clubs that have rented the track that you can then join.

Thank you all for the information. I never knew there was so much planning with trying to track your car. I always thought the tracks around the US were always open and you kinda just drove there and registered. It's good to know that track days are something you have to wait and sign up for so thank you! I'll try and sign up for one of those "Friday at the track" days at summit point when the registration opens up but it seems the next available track day there is in march so I have some preparing to do!

 

Yeah, taking the car to the track is a bigger deal than going to the strip. You'll need to get your car inspected to make sure it's safe. Having a helmet, SA rated helps. But some events have a few loaners. There is a risk of wrecking it. Some track are more likely than others. Insurance can cover it. You're not racing, it's a high speed driver education event. Some insurance companies will cover it, some won't.

My biggest caution, it is ridiculously addictive. It's not for everyone, but if it's for you, it'll be in your blood forever. Good luck.

Nice find. I can confirm the Texas road race tracks. Also, the track outside Demmings, NM. Missing are drag strips.
