Should I do this Joliet IL track day.

This is the event.

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...council-679154

I’ve had my 2008 G37s for about a month now. It’s my DD and has been running great. It has four new Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S tires and new oem style brake pads.

My plan was to track prep the car this winter and have some fun with it next summer. I haven’t done any track prep yet but just saw this event posted online. I’d like to go but the car is basically stock.

I don’t have time to get a wheel/ tire setup in time but I can get an oil cooler. Do I need track brake pads? I’ve read a lot of the track prep threads but I’m a track noob and would like to do some laps w/ an instructor and work on my driving.

Should I?

Wait until next year for a fully track prepped car

Change the brake fluid, install an oil cooler and go

Change brake fluid and add track pads, install an oil cooler and go

I say pass. It's getting colder around here. Highs maybe in the 50's in the afternoon at best.

Do your maintenance then have fun next spring/summer.

Even your stock pads are not bedded in. Do that first. Otherwise, you can run stock, though as jsolo pointed out, it's getting cold up there and tire grip will be down.

Oh. They're not that new. Pads and tires have 3000 miles on them. I think I am going to pass but it sounds fun and I actually have that weekend free. I also remembered I need a helmet. I've just borrowed one before. I'd have to buy alot this week to go.

My plan for the winter is:
wheel set with nitto tires
oil cooler
Track brake pads
all synthetic fluids
motul 600
helmet

I think that will get me started. Am I missing anything?

I've run in the 40's before - Thunderhill in December. The car actually likes it and will run hard all day long, even without an oil cooler. Grip won't be down all that much if you're not running a super aggressive tire. That being said, there's no need to rush and I agree that prep is important and shouldn't be skipped.

What tires are you planning on running, and in what sizes? Nittos aren't exactly known for their "track" pedigree, with exception of the NT01, which I doubt you would want to step up to as your first track tire.
