Flakman, this seems like it might be the perfect place to start for you:

Welcome to Track Night - Track Night in America

Can't beat the cost and it's not going to be a hard core track day, with a lot of ****-swinging going on... I've been to those. Looks like a great way to explore the car a bit without a bunch of guys going for the fastest lap time. You're not going to spend enough time, at a fast enough speed to chew up tires or brakes either. While my x is a very competent street car, it's a big, heavy track car. Just the same, I'm going to take it out to my local events. I'm even going to drag the wife along as it seems as though the environment is specifically designed to encourage interest and participation, without the intimidation factor present at many track days. They'll even let kids 12 or older ride along so my daughter should be able to turn a few laps with me.

Thanks Apex. Looks like the closest event to me is Thunder Hill which is also where they hold the Car Control Clinic that I'm trying to get my wife and I signed up for. Great info!
