What helmet do you have?
I need one for karting and the occasional track day. Tired of borrowing or renting one. They never have one big enough for my melon!
I found one pretty cheap that I'll probably get unless I discover some compelling reason not to get it.

Also in the market for one for occasional track days and came across this one. Not top of the line but i'm not stunt'n on a motorcycle, so it works. Also complies with Snell M2010 which is required at all tracks that I know of. Plus, it's real carbon fiber.

That's a motorcycle helmet. I recall reading somewhere that bike helmets and car helmets offer different types of protection. Not sure I agree with that. Much more protection is needed on a bike than in a car.
I used to ride with a shoei x-11 brain bucket. Fortunately never got to test out it's protection abilities
It's a pricey bucket, but is very lightweight, has decent airflow, removable inside liners.

I also have a hard time agreeing with that. But I've never been to any track that said I couldn't race because it's a motorcycle helmet. It just had to comply with Snell M2010. Rules and regulations should be standard across all tracks, no?

They had ones upwards of 1k.
Real nice, but overkill for me.

Motorcycle ones are made to survive multiple impacts, since if you fall is a good chance of that happening. Where as the race car one is made for one single hit.
ALL helmets are only designed to protect the wearer from and impact only ONCE. A severe drop or any impact and it should be replaced.
The differences between motorcycle and auto sports helmets is that ones designed for auto sports need to have fire resistant lining and restraint systems, motorcycle helmets don't have this requirement. Also motorcycle helmets require a greater visual field. Auto sports helmets (SA and K) have multiple impact testing, motorcycle doesn't.
