took the vert to the track

I took my 010 Vert to the track today. It was a corvette club track day and the sponsor is friend of mine. Car did surprisingly well considering most of the cars were Z06's. I was able to run with quite a few thru the corners (many years of track time on a superbike) passing a few on the exits. had nothing for them on the straights though . You would be surprised how well the car handles at the limits, I had a Porsche Cup pro take me for a few hot laps it was amazing. Everyone here should give it a try sometime, the car is capable.

^ Nice.. I may do that at Z days. I know the car handles relatively well on twisty roads, just not superbly well as a 370Z nismo for example.

Major issue with our verts is WEIGHT! These bad boys are FAT! An extra 400+lbs is a lot. Dropping 12lbs PER WHEEL this past week has made an incredible difference in the usable power my car has now.

A set of coil overs and sway bars would make a major difference for handling! There is only so much we can do to drop weight though.

Sounds like you had a great day at the track!

Track days are a ton of fun!
Where were you? I participated in a HPDE event last fall in my Vert @ Poconos (long course) and neededcto end the sessions a little early due to the oil temperature causing the car to go into limp mode. Did you experience anying like that?

^ You'll need an oil cooler if you really track the car hard.

Oil cooler and you have to be very careful with the brakes. They were tested in C&D and completely failed. They tried the track pads too which both basically melted off the car. So be VERY careful.

They even did a follow up (they crashed a 370Z Nismo on their track day) and the second time it did the same thing. I think they feel there isn't enough air hitting the brakes to cool them.

Acknowledged. The G Vert is not a track car. I just wanted to take it out and see whatnot was truly capable of.

FWIW - the Vert performs very well on the track (prior to the oil issue). It is very predictable and although the sport suspension is a little soft, it was easy to throw around in the corners and it responded well. Overall, it is a fun little car and was certainly equal to my buddy's 911 Carerra. My other friend's Z06 was a completely different story - that thing was a beast on the track!

I recall the article and was concerned however, The brakes held up very well - no issue at all. The tires took quite a beating and the wear after just 1 day was obvious as shown on the massively feathered edges.

Yeah, I just keep mine on the mountains as it relates to extreme use. Yeah it's no racecar but fun to drive. Having it lowered helps with the feel for sure.

Good reminder on the brakes! I forgot about that. Bigger Brake kit needed.

I had a great time on the track with the vert. I did find that the paddles were way too stiff to switch gears and the gear shift was slow as hell but the car handled great. It helped a LOT having a sway bar (I use Hotchkiss one). The straight line speed was bleah but the turns were a lot of fun. And, as always, great steering. Oh and the brakes didn't last very long. They heat up pretty fast. Guess stopping the big fat girl takes a lot of friction.

If you dropped the top in the truck, it would move much of that weight over the rear wheels where it can be used for better handling and traction on the rear. I forgot the weight distribution with the top up, but I remember reading somewhere that with the top down, it's like 50/50 ratio. Many great handling cars I have driven are like 52/48.

Anyway, as you and others said, it wasn't designed for the track, but spirited handling on twisty roads.
