Willow Springs 2/5/11 Track Day, the fun and the Aftermath

I took the G to her third track day out to Willow springs (Big Willow). It was our first time at that track and it was scary at first but after the first confidence building session it was alot of fun.

THE FUN:

So the first session out there I got fast lap of 1:50 but my last session i managed a 1:45.6 sec fast lap. However i feel i could have bet that time if it wasn't for a Corvette that passed me on the straight and then slowed me down around the twisties .

Custom made Oil Coolers from JEB Performance

Those are hard to find parts. Ask Jeb Performance for help, he will find you the right parts for reasonable price. He is vendor on this forum, had custom made Oil Coolers from JEB Performance. I don't know about you guys but I have hard time getting along with Infiniti's Service Department.

For simple service and parts under warranty. For me they always throw curve *****. Never Straight forward. Let me know if you are able to find one. I may need service on my G soon as well. Good Luck.

Setrab Series 6, 16 row oil cooler.

Setrab is made in Sweden and it is best oil cooler out there. 16 roll oil cooler recommended by JEB to ensure oil pressure. Otherwise replace to a bigger oil pump.

8AN 90 Degree Double Swivel Hose End - Anodized you need two.

8AN 45 Degree Double Swivel Hose End - Anodize you need two.

You have option of using 8AN or 10AN. We chose 8AN, so we don't compromise on oil pressure, or get bigger pumps. But make sure to fit all hose and hose ends to match the size. Make sure to use Anodized hose ends, for tight seal, resist corrosion and threading. Swivel hose ends to allow minimum movement, reduce pressure exerted on hoses during hard turns, braking, and acceleration.

8AN Stainless Steel Braided Hose - We used 6ft, but I recommend 8ft. All aftermarket oil cooler kits use, nylon hose. But we opted for stainless steel for protection against rocks and debris.

Mocal Hi Flow Sandwich Plate Thermostat BSP Adaptors

Oil Cooler
Anodize Hose Ends (x4)
Stainless Steel Hose 6ft
Mocal Hi-Flo T adapter
10AN to 8AN adapter (x2)

After acquire, all item above fitting is pretty easy. Almost

1. Remove bumber
2. Fit 90 degree hose ends on Sandwich adapters
3. Run hose up and over intake duct.
4. Secure oil cooler in front of radiator. I ran holes through center steel post and secured with some bolt. But there are brackets out there.
5. fasten 45 degree hose ends to the oil cooler.

we have originally planned to place the oil cooler on the driver side of the vehicle. However 3 ft stainless hose we bought forced us to move the oil cooler over to passenger side. Oil filter is closer to the passenger side of the G37.

Yes we are lucky, one of our friend owns a service center. So we got to use his.

Drain all you oil before any fitting

Remove oil filter and fit the thermostat sandwich adapter

Run the hose over and through intake duct.

Make sure to adjust angle of the oil cooler so the hose nor the ends touch other parts of the car. We fitted our between front sway bar and ignition motor on top. It is tight.

For now at the street, I am not able to test. However December 20, 2009. I will be attending track event at the SpeedVentures. I will post Oil Temperatures through the track event. Wish me luck.

So far no more limp mode. Especially after using Motul 5W40's from JEB. Which protects integrity of engine oil up to 400 degrees.

Why was the "aftermath" deleted from this thread? I'm planning on tracking my car at an HPDE event at Thunderhill up here in NoCal this Spring & want to be prepared. A little help here?

got paranoid, lol.

I lost some powered steering due to an electrical problem. They said a relay was only producing 2V when it should have been 4V. I'm going to have to look into it a bit more. It got fixed under warranty
