So I need to know how to launch...
Going to the drag strip in Fontana tomorrow and I have no idea whats the best way to take off from the line with the 5AT. Should I just mash the gas all the way or brake launch (and at what RPM should I drop it)? What gives the best results?
It's going to be my first time at any drag strip, hope I don't run like a 15 or something.
And I just mash the gas when the light turns green right?

No simple answer for you.
Variables = Tires - Temperatures - Track Conditions
Hopefully you get several runs and figure out for yourself what works best, good luck.

Brake launch is the best way......
Since it is your first time...
1.) Turn off your AC when you are in line. (No one wants to be the jacka$$ that leaks on the track)
2.) Dont try to do a burnout cause it wont matter.
3.) Wear jeans for safety and closed toe shoes.
4.) Roll up your windows.
5.) Put it in DS mode and dont paddle shift or try to manually shift. Let the computer do the work.
6.) Pre stage by pulling up until the first yellow light lights up. wait.
7.) When you opponent is ready, you will both pull up enough until the second yellow light lights up.
5.) Be immediately ready and Brake launch by revving to 2500rpm.
6.) The green light comes quickly after you hit that second yellow light. Release brake and floor that bitch.
Note: dont try to brake quickly when you are done. brake slowly. you wont get 15's if you do it this way. but if you try to manually shift you will. launching is somthing that takes practice.

If you dont have a CAI, I would suggest taking your filter out AT THE TRACK and put it back in before you get back on the street. Will help your time by a couple tenths. not much. your tire pressure wont do anything, it matters how sticky your tires are. If you have stock potenzas than it doesnt matter.
I would suggest turning your VDC off too.

Lose the trunk mat, floor mats, spare, and anything else not bolted down. IF you're going with a group it is easy to dump all this in a pile with them while you are away waiting.
Dropping pressure is usually to get a bit of a wider track but as said above really isn't a huge factor on the stockers.
I've also in the past turned the defroster on with high heat (no AC) to get the t-stat opened up to keep it cool. Since you also want windows up it can get hot so do all of this as you are about 2nd in line.
Turning off VDC is helpful, but don't get in trouble. I haven't launched an auto G but you need to find a balance between a bit of wheel spin and a big burnout. It is a fine line that you need to practice for.

yea, weight reduce that biatch...take out ur spare and anything else u don't need....back seats, etc etc etc...the less gas, the better...oil changes before the track also help with ur time...um...what else...like heat said, take out ur filters....oh, and if ur planning to do a few runs, when ur waiting around with nothing to do, turn off the engine, open the hood, turn on the hot air and blast it with the windows down (this will draw the hot air out of ur engine bay and cool off ur engine)

Damn 2500RPM on the break rev? I didnt think you could take it this high, i usually only do like 1500. But you guys seem to know what your talking about. Can doing this hurt or damage anything on the car?
I would suggest NOT brake launching. The car has a high stall TC already so brake launching will only build up heat in the drivetrane and further reduce your time. And if you don't get off the brake fast enough the engine will cut the power a bit.
I would suggest VDC off, just slam the gas and let the TC do the work...
Mags even got the best time with that technique as well.

technically you are only revving for about 1-2 seconds so it is not enough to do any real damage. I tried launching several different ways as this is my first auto that I have tracked or raced for that matter. Brake launching will give you better times if done correctly.
you only take it out at the track. You never want to leave it off while doing daily driving.
If you have a high performance filter than it really is not that necessary unless you are really trying to shave hundredths of a second off your time.
