Something else I have noticed is that Kahboom is the only one that has posted track times and used the soft break-in method, all others have mentioned a hard break in. Probably no correlation, differences probably have more to do with track conditions, but just thought it was interesting.

One crazy observation that I noticed is that this car needs to be launched hard in-order to overcome the low torque. I have noticed that with good launches, this car screams/moves with authority. I actually shocked myself the other day just playing around with launch techniques. Day-to-day driving, you would never know that the engine actually has this much grunt hidden.

Please have your friends find the guy or next time if he is at the track, tell him to come on the forums. I would be really interested to see what he did to achieve that time

You mean modded 335i territory, so far I have been to two different tracks about 5 times and have yet to see them at 13.3-13.4 without a mild tune or vishnu upgrade or drag radials.

i dunno...i read quite a few posts on E90 and bimmerfest and the 335i stockies are getting down to 13.3-13.4....i know most of them are die hard bimmer fanboys but they wouldn't lie about the size of their ****...would they?...lol.

lol I call B.S. on them. Even on www.dragtimes.com the guys with procede stage 1 are only pulling off 13.3-13.5. Actually 13.6s seem to be the norm with 6mt and 13.7-8s for the Autos. The thing is, their topend mph are like 104,5+ wow. Considering we do weight a ton and lose big time in the torque department, we are doing pretty good.

How about that guy with the 13.4 (G37S 6MT)? Can we say ummmm, let's get him in here asap.

I gotta agree with both of you to a certain extent. The posters on a forum will always quote the absolute fastest times they see for a their own car. When comparing to others, they will go on the low end. Here is my attempt at most objectively comparing the two:

Magazine times: 335i: 13.3-13.7
G37: 13.8-14.0
Best track time: 335i: 13.2
G37: 13.4*
Average track time: 335i: 13.5-13.7
G37: 13.8-14.0

To me, while it isn't a tiny gap, it's not an overwhelming gap either. Average 335i is 0.3 seconds faster in the quarter mile.

hmmm....i'll go check out E90 or bimmerfest and see if i can confirm some low 13 second STOCK (no Drs) 335is.

EJ2000-tha seems about right. I do think the 1/4 and 0-60 difference is more like .4-.5 seconds. of course if it's lower than that i'll be pleased either way

I might agree with you - I just tried to give my best estimation with what I've read so far. However, one thing that might be affecting the results is that TONS of 335i's have been to the drag strip, where only a few G37s have. The top 3 times out of 30 different 335is is going to look a lot better than the top 3 times out of 6 g37s. Maybe once we get more G37s out there, the average times will improve. I know that I've seen bad G37 runs, and bad 335i runs (14.0-14.1). I'd like to see a 335i run a G37 with identical 60' times. Maybe we can hash this out a little better with a larger data set.

Hmm. Yeah it could of been a lot of driver implemented things that could of affected the run.

wow 13.4 for the 6spd is damn impressive. im guessing he had: no spare, low gas, weighed 150lbs, no all-wheel-steer, and the planets were aligned perfectly.

i'm also waiting for some highway run youtube videos. that way we can factor out the launch and driver skill. (plus the highway is where the g37 shines )

on the drag strip, given equal drivers i would expect the 335i to win by about 0.3 seconds. 0.3 seconds @100mph may not sound like much but its like 3 car lengths. the 335i just has more downlow grunt thanks to the turbos.

to me the G37's biggest problem is traction. 245mm rear tires aren't gonna cut it for the high rpm launch the car needs.

Yeah - I completely agree. While 0.3 seconds certainly isn't small, it's not a slaughter, either. Launches are a little tough in the G, but I'm still optimistic we can get a few 60' times under 2 seconds.
