So I've read through a couple threads on here where people like myself who have non-sport model G's have added oem paddle shifters. My question is this, is this only possible through purchasing a vendor kit or could I go down to my local infiniti dealership and piece together my own kit of sorts? If so, what all would be needed other than the two paddles? My understanding is that I would only need the four trim pieces on the steering column (from the sport model) and the mounting bolts. Am I missing anything else? Also does it make a difference that my car has a powered tilt/telescope wheel?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

I'm sure you COULD make your own paddle shifters, but you'd then have to worry about wiring them correctly, getting the fitment correct, then fabricating everything to make them aesthetic.

The OEM kit takes care of all of that, since it was absolutely designed for this car, including the power tilt/telescoping column, which, to my knowledge, ALL G37's have.

So...yes, you could theoretically build your own paddle shifter kit, but it would probably cost you more time and money in the long run if you tried to cobble your own together.

 

I'm sorry if my question was confusing, what I meant was could I pick up the OEM parts (paddles, trim pieces, and mounting hardware) from my dealership and install all of them myself rather than buying a package from a vendor and possibly paying more than I have to. So I'm wondering if there are any differences between what comes from a vendor kit and what I'd get through a dealership? And if this is possible, what all parts would I need to buy other than the two paddles?
This may be a lost cause but basically I'm just trying to see if there is an alternative to the $375 vendor kit. Thanks!

 

The alternative you describe is possible, but the dealer will have no idea what you are talking about, tell you that you have voided some kind of warranty, and/or tell you the install is impossible and your car will not recognize them or be wired for the paddles. By the time you convince them to look up the parts and they find all of the parts you ask for, the total cost will be significantly more than the vendor price. At this point you will have wasted half a day in frustration without any progress.

 

If you look around at different model years on the infiniti online parts catalogs you will eventually come across some pairs of paddle shifter for $150 rather than $300, maybe start with the 2009 model year I don't know why some years are cheaper, but all the part numbers are the same...

 

Those are for the paddle shifter kits that match the light interiors. The kits that are more expensive are the black interior kits. The black kits are more expensive because the part is shared with the GTR.

 

You can definitely piece together a kit for a lot cheaper.

I found the two paddles used on ebay for $150 in graphite. They were in great condition, no tears, scratches or anything. Then I contacted the vendor on here @TunerzStore and got the trim pieces new for fairly cheap. Next buy the screws from a local hardware store and your good to go. I ended up spending roughly $230 all said and done!

You just have to keep an eye out for the paddles, I would sit on it a couple weeks before opting out and spending $350-$400 on the whole kit.

I spoke with my local infiniti dealership about having them install these on my 2011 g37 journey and they said they could do it no problem and it doesn't void any warranty as well. Although they did quote me at $600 for parts and install lol. Needless to say I did it all on my own for about $200.

Anyways I notice the thread is kinda old and you probably already figured it out but just thought i would give you a heads up.

yes you can install them, No the horn and air bag are not touched just the trim pieces are changed, and $600 WOW labor takes 35 mins LOL but Ive dont it like 4 times and they cost like 350$

All the cars are prewired for them( All I've seen) I did them on both my nonsport G's one sedan 2009 and 2011 Coupe, Was going to do the wifes Q50 but she isn't keeping it.

I picked up mine used for $125 and installed them in a matter of 30-45 minutes. It's not rocket science, plus there's a DIY somewhere in this forum.
