Winter tires vs all season?

Hey all, wanted some opinions from locals. My car is currently in storage but with a baby on the way soon I'd like to have my car functional. I'd really prefer a really good all season tire if possible. Do any of you drive on all seasons with good luck?

No luck.. all season in snow doesn't work well. Get some dedicated winter tires

You can get away with all seasons if you're talking about a fwd car but on a rwd, I think you gotta bite the bullet and get a dedicated set of winters. ESPECIALLY if you have a baby on the way. And I too would suggest Blizzaks as a great winter tire.

with kids involved, i would agree. buy a cheap set of rims and use them as dedicated winter wheels with snow tires.

and keep the all seasons or summers on your other set of wheels.

take it from me, i have been here for 2 weeks...

If you didn't want to drive in the snow that was over say 2 inches you could get away with a good all season ( I have Continental DWS's on my 18's ). Anything over that dedicated snow tires. I bought a set of winterforces for mine, and they do make literally a night and day difference.

Now, I would probably never try to run all seasons again. Just not worth it.

It's the first week of february here in chicago.

Forecast for next week is mid to upper 40's the whole week. Do I still need snow tires.... This has been one wacked winter so far. If this trend continues, the summer wheels will go back on soon.

Im driving my G35 coupe on all seasons, the continental Extreme Contact DWS (Dry, Wet, Snow). I haven't died yet and my car did okay when we it snowed 4-5 inches. With all seasons you will be spinning your tires, but you will have some traction. I take off in 2nd gear so I barely get any wheel slip. I love the combination between wheel slip and traction with these tires. I am able to get grip and accelerate pretty fast but when you tap the gas you go sideways! I haven't came across a hill I couldn't go up yet.

All season tires are do-able, I bought all season cause I couldn't find any decent rims to buy Blizzaks.

The cons to the tires are the price. I paid $960 total for them. The blizzaks are around $1100-1150. So if you have spare rims I would go with the Winter/Summer set. But if you don't have spare rims stick with all seasons, just drive safely. I would recommend the DWS's.

Winter tires over all season for sure. All season works fine in rain pretty good though...but i don't push it on turns to be on a safe side w/ RWD.
