Hey everyone. I just moved to Colorado a month ago and I was speaking to my co-worker who said he recommended that I at least put an K&N air filter due to the higher altitude in Northern Colorado. Doing so will make it so I get more air flow and thus get 10-15% more mileage.

Also, he said with this high of an altitude I don't have to fill on premium, but regular would be just fine (forgot what the reasoning was for that).

 

Yes with the higher altitude you CAN go to 87/89 fuel...when I lived in CO I still put premium in my car just because. But you will notice a little less power at higher altitudes

 

Cool, thanks for the reply. As stupid as it sounds, what's the reasoning behind that (in terms of 87/89 being ok at a higher altitude)?

 

Don't quote me on it, but if I remember right it's because of flame point and combustion...because the reason you need 91/93 normally is so the fuel combusts at the correct timing in the cycle and you don't get knocking...and at a higher altitude with different pressure therefore different ignition and combustions points, you can use the lower grade fuel.

 

I would guess the air is thinner so compression ratio is less

 

i live in colorado springs,colorado ! yes you can use 85/87 to save on gas price but you will get better pretormance and mileage using 91 .

we should get a g37 club in colorado.

I would rather pay the extra 10 cents per gallon in a 91 gas than saving 2 or 3 bucks in 87/85.

Hey, have any of you guys ever dealt with MAC Autosport? I am in the Broomfield area and am thinking about having them install a SC in my 2008 G37S. I have a buddy with a G35 who had them install an intake and plenum spacer. He said they were great to work with and did a good job.

Just spoke with them today and they are asking $7500 installed for the Stillen turnkey kit. They use the tune developed by Stillen for high altitude. That means they are getting around $1200 for the install. I don't know how many hours labor is actually involved.

 

I don't have any decent ones.

 

They did some work for me on a subie - installed an FMIC, bigger turbo, etc. They had to do some custom fabrication on the tubing - it all turned out well. I didn't have any problems with them. The owner is a gruff old b@stard, but the guys in the shop did good work.
