No, the tail light assemblies do not need to be removed for installation
You'll just need to peel the trunk liner back to gain access. It's a very simple procedure

Just a note, on the coupe the taillights do have to be removed. At first I was a little upset because I ordered these lights based on your answer. But the taillight removal was super simple and took a few minutes
