2010 G37xS flex leak and catback replace advice

Hi All,

Tech told me I have a leak at one of the rear flex joints. He said it is hard to weld and suggested a new stainless catback replacement.

1. I saw a guy on Youtube use some special caulk and tape to fix the flex pipe hole. Is this best since car is fairly old?
2. Any good places to find catback for my car with mufflers? It seems there are many listings for RWD G37s, but not for AWD sedans. Mechanic told me that the pipes will be around $500 and he will charge $200 to install. He said his supplier only has the cheap stuff that will rust out, so he advised to go stainless.

Thanks!
Mark

Confused.

Exhaust consists of: Two Catalytic Converters (Left and Right), these feed into a Y-Yipe which contains flex pipe, the Y-pipe feeds into a mid-pipe then the axleback comes out of the mid-pipe and feeds into two mufflers (Left and Right).

Why would you need an entire cat back if the Y-pipe flex is damaged (pretty common problem)?

Muffler Express has a nice replacement Y-pipe if that's all you end up needing: https://mufflerexpress.com/products/...BoC_-kQAvD_BwE

My muffler guy here in CA (where everything is more expensive) charges $100 to install.

He might live in the rust belt and the tech thinks it would be better to just get a whole new exhaust instead of patching it. I would agree with the tech as that was my experience with my other car that had leaks and rust.

That makes sense. He likely posted the same question to multiple platforms and took the first response he received as that seems to happen alot these days.
