Building my own RHFC for half the price of FI or Berk..
I just found a used set of Beluga resonated test pipes and grabbed them. I got to thinking while searching how to avoid the CEL/SES, why wouldn't I just cut and weld some cats into the test pipes assuming I find the right length and diameter. Has anyone tried this or does everyone just pay the overpriced amount for the Fast intention or BERK's?
Lets consider the cost really quick:
$650 for FI RHFC, you could find them for less but I REFUSE to run without resonators so those options are pointless to me. Then most of you will pay labor costs of $150-300 on top..
Resonated test pipes are $150, Flowmaster high flow cats are $140 a pair, I was quoted $80 to get them cut and welded in place. That's $370 for bolt on, resonated high flow cats. Am I missing something here? For those of you that will have them installed I bet it would still cost less after labor than the retail price of just the others.
Either way, I'm doing it and will post pictures of the finished product in a week or two when it all comes in.

Aww don't be mad dude, I'm just trying something different than everyone else. Worst case I toss them in the trash and get the FI RHFC like I planned anyway. Nothing wrong with a little R&D to help the masses.
I will ONLY install resonated cats, does BERK make a resonated HFC? If so I couldn't find them anywhere? I hate rasp so if the BERKS aren't then that's not an option, like I stated.
I have nothing against the other versions, they look great and do their job, I just wanted to try something new.

Which is a good thing. 300 CPSI is not as a great a flowing cat as a 200 CPSI.. The more cells per square inch is directly proportional to more restriction and backpressure in an exhaust system. That being said, the ones I'm after aren't as high flowing, they are rated 400 CPSI, Im not set on these, still researching and finding what's what..
Flowmaster PN - 2230125 - 223 Series - Rated at 400 CPSI.
I found some Magnaflows PN - 59956 that are rated at 200 CPSI but ultimately I'll have to wait to get the test pipes and get some measurements before I know which cats to order. I'll update this later when I do.

To me, this is a fun project while trying something new for everyone to see. Sure it's a waste of money to do both, but at least everyone will know from now on this is or isn't a good idea. Back when I first got into cars I wish there were more people like me trying to pioneer things instead of being sheep and just buying what everyone else bought. Just my thinking..

thank you for doing this, I'm actually in the market for the Beluga rtp's myself. they have received good reviews over on the 370 forums. please update this thread with results, I'm curious to see how it turns out. I plan on installing the test pipes, if the sound is too crazy I may go the route you are planning.

I got the pipes today so I'll take some measurements and pictures and order the cats tonight.

After shopping around I'm pretty set on Magnaflow, they are 200 CPSI.

Here are the Beluga test pipes measured up. I'm going to round down to give the welder some wiggle room and say I have a comfortable 9" of space to fit a HFC.
Magnaflow part # 59956 are rated at 200 CPSI, 2.5" in/out and only 8" from tip to tip, plenty of space. 8" is enough to still do its job but being at 200 CPSI it flows very well. Couple these cats with the already welded on o2 extenders and I think I'll be well in the clear of any SES/CEL. Stay tuned.
