AEM cold air intakes (from 370z nismo) Dyno

HAVENT dynoed the car yet. Wasn't sure if I could change the title after the dyno results so i made it that way

Long story short. I bought some used aem intakes from a 370z nismo owner for a good price. If you do not know, the AEM cold air intakes have a larger diameter at the MAF making them the same diameter from one end to the other. The intakes come with modules which I have also bypassed because the owner said he was pretty sure they did not work. The reason I went with these is because I feel like they should have the biggest gains with a tune. I've had gold experiences with aem when it came to making power at the dyno so hopefully I don't get let down after all this crap.

PHASE 1 - The test fit

Surprisingly, it was not that difficult to make these fit. And when I say fit, I mean fit without any issues or contact of other parts. I had to cut the lower bracket off of the driver side intake and then it bolted right up using the factory intake mounts up top (still need to make a mount down low). The left side wasn't bad at all but I had to remove the washer box and make a mount for the lower bracket. So here they are. Bolted up like they were made for the vehicle. I tried starting it with the MAF modules for the 370 and it would not run right (just wanted to check idle).

Custom mount for the bottom bracket can be seen here at the top right corner of the picture. Used a thick 90 degree metal bend, bolted to the front clip, and then reaches to the intake with an isolation mount.

Driver size clearance is tight. After more adjusting it was not touching the fog light. Also had to bend the horn mount upwards.

PHASE 2 - Dyno numbers and "testing"

So with the exhaust I put down around 295. I added the intakes and the car jumped to a ridiculous air to fuel ratio of 15.5 by 4500 RPMS which means.... They flow. A lot. lol so I ended up flashing EcuTek to make them work. After adding the intakes and tune it made an extra 12hp which is pretty good I guess. This is with stock cats too. So I believe they are now the choke point. There is no way that the intakes are the restricting factor anymore. So mods are:
AEM long tubes
Nismo 370z H-pipe
Nismo 370z mid pipe
Custom 2-1/4 inch axle back.

PHASE 3 - sound clip and review

Review. Well being that it is summer now. The car seems to be much more efficient. After being in stop and go traffic it doesn't get laggy anymore. I have an E-Gauge so I will be checking air temps to see where they reach. I am confident in saying that the air inlet temp has definitely Fallen compared to stock. I will post up a video soon.
The wires on the left are for the washer fluid relocation. Haven't finished it yet.

More to come soon

Phil

FINAL UPDATE. the intakes have been trashed. whenever I was barely on the gas or just coasting through some place the car would go into limp mode. Throwing a P006 a code for maf correlation. my best bet is that the maf location isnt the best place for the mafs to be. maybe the modules are there for a bigger reason than i thought. i ended up cutting the intakes and making a hard pipe kit though to go along with some drop ins lol this is definetly a loss for the books... and a waste of 200 dollars lol

Looks great man! Really good work getting it to fit properly... can't wait to see the dyno numbers and hear the sound clip

Is the dyno sheet before or after you got the lean AFR corrected? It looks like after, but just wanted to double check.

Great gains under the curve if so!

Also, I really like how those utilize the stock airbox mounting holes. Wish my Stillens had that.

Where do the MAF's go?

Mafs are Down near the filters. Came with extensions that go in between the mafs and the stock clips.

I don't have a graph of just the intakes. I tried my best to get the car tuned with just the intakes but it didn't work out. The graph is bone stock vs intake, exhaust, and tune. Before installing the intakes. The car made 296 and 237. But that was also in colder and less humid weather. So after correcting the AFR the car picked up 11hp and 3ft/lb and made 307.

Are the modules for those who do NOT plan on doing a tune?

Yes. But apparently they're 370z nismo specific.

Ah ok. Would probably work on an IPL then. I now understand why they have so many different part numbers for the 370.

You probably could have had the MAF issues tuned out? Assuming you're using Uprev or ECUTek?

We tried. And it got better but the mafs being right behind the filters I did notice some water spots on the maf and I didn't want to cause any issues. Wasn't worth the HP gain in my opinion haha I think the easiest solution would've just been to get airs straighteners to help reduce turbulence.

Not yet. Only problem with comparing results is that the shop that tunes my car just moved and bought a new dyno lol so the numbers won't be comparable any more :/
