Drone w/ ART pipe+Top Speed - 2.5" y pipe?

Sup guys,

So I've had my ART pipes and top speed y-back combined with a 3" generic Y pipe for a while now for full bolt-ons. Problem is, I get quite a bit of drone at highway speeds. I can tolerate it but on long drives (1+hrs) it starts to get to me.

I'm thinking this could be because the 3" y-pipe connects to the 2.5" top speed midpipe - naturally causing airflow disruption. You guys think I should swap out the y-pipe? or something else?

I think the only 2.5" y pipe around is the Top Speed y-pipe, haven't seen Exhaust Depot active in ages.

AFAIK the TopSpeed also has the 3" collector, and yep, exhaust depot is no more. Might post a WTB for that exhaust depot Y pipe here and the 350/370z sites, might get lucky or even ebay. There was one here a few months ago so they do show up.

A good muffler shop may be able to fab a 3" transition to your TopSpeed midpipe, might be worth looking at that option too.

And then there's the ultimate Y-pipe, the Motordyne XYZ, and w/ the resonator you'd probably have a much better sound

Yeah I'll keep an eye out for that one but it's gonna be super hard to find. And I was also looking at the XYZ pipe too.. maybe I could source a used one for a good deal.

Seems like ever since I've got the ART pipes its been causing me to continuously tinker with the exhaust lol. The sound was perfect with just the Top Speed.

That's good to know, I'm very happy w/ my TS Y back and would hate to alter the sound in a bad way. I've been thinking about FI Resonated TPs but

^ same.
I've spent inordinate amounts of time contemplating how to enhance my exhaust without screwing up how the TS sounds on its own.

Haha exactly. Is it so much to ask for an exhaust setup that is full bolt-ons, isn't top of the line $, and doesn't have a lot of rasp/drone?

I feel like I'm close though. Maybe even some Dynamat might solve my problem.

- Good quality
- Reasonably priced
- Doesn't drone

Pick 2.

Hahaha. So true. I may do the Motordyne pipe if I get overly fed up with the drone or maybe some dynamat first when I get the time. All the while hunting down that Exhaust Depot pipe!

Get an x-pipe done. I went from a y-pipe to a custom x-pipe and my in cabin drone is gone now.

Wouldn't that mean getting a new midpipe as well? An X pipe has 2 outlets.

The midpipe was cut right after the collector where it met the Y-pipe, so it could be compatible with the X-pipe.
