Thermal Tape/Wrap?

did a quick search, but didn't find anything.

Just curious is anybody is using thermal tape/wrap on their aftermarket intakes? was considering this idea since its been getting pretty warm recently (random california heat wave) and the VQ doesn't exactly run cool.

Is it beneficial or just a waste of time/money?

they are on my list to do in the near future

I've seen a few members with heat wrap on the intake piping. Seems like a good idea. I'm also curious because I use the same type of tape for working with cell phone motherboards as I am a Cell Phone Tech. It's perfect for when I have to solder/desolder components using a heat gun to prevent melting plastic parts surrounding the immediate area. So I don't see why it wouldn't be beneficial at all to wrap the the pipes. Might try that myself when my Takeda CAI comes in this weekend

It certainly can't hurt.

FWIW, I did a bit of testing when I had my prelude. My AEM intake pipe would get hot to the touch after sitting in traffic on my commute so I wrapped it with reflective tape. Didn't notice a performance difference. Took it off and didn't notice a difference, either.

Any input on doing this after your post? I was just looking at that product and I'm going to do my intakes with it. Did you run any temp tests before and after at the throttle body?

Don't the Gs already have Oil and Transmission coolers, though I doubt they are that good compared to aftermarket.

No and no/yes. No OE oil coolers. No trans cooler for manual but there is one for the 7AT. Though you didn't mention it, there's also a power steering fluid cooler.

I doubt there is a significant opportunity for air to heat up in a couple feet of intake pipe with 500 CFM of outside air flowing through the intake. That's not a lot of surface area.

Ape Factory posted temperatures. Significant change from idle to moving.

Sorry, he didn't wrap his intake. He did log intake temperatures in case anyone thinks wrapping is not worthwhile.

Of course, unless you also wrap the throttle bodies, your effort is half-baked.

I assumed there would be a change from idle to moving, but i can't see how heat wrap would change that significantly. It's not like air being drawn through the intake has significant contact with hot surfaces before it's in the combustion chamber.

You are basically correctly. Yet, this is one of those low-cost-with-no-downside mods.
