Dual filters on a Takeda

Has any one looked into installing dual filters onto a Takeda CAI?

if so can you share some dimensions or part numbers for the filters?

Good question. I've been wondering about this as well.

For some reason, I just don't really like the fact that both intakes are pulling air from the the same filter.

I'm sure there are no problems because of this, but I would prefer each intake to have it's own seperate filter.

^ lol sound doesn't have to do anything with filters being single vs dual in our cars, design and piping diameter do! In fact my engine did sound louder with Takedas compared to my previous Stillen G3 But i ended up putting stillen back again for sake of Filteration efficiency, i just wasn't that satisfied with afe filteration.. Butt was pleased with Takedas tho lol.

So what analytical method did you use to determine the filtration efficiency of each of these?

^ no lab test but personal visual observation, and that's more than enough to me!

I live in a very very dusty area that requires to clean the filters more often like every 10,000 Km or so, now when i pull my takeda's filter for washing, i notice that not much of dirt in the water that i just used for washing, on the other hand - with the same dusty area, same interval cleaning ) i notice the K&n's are way dirtier n u can see the dirt/brown water in the bucket .. Still not satisfied ?! What if i tell you that when i pull the rubber/silicone U joint from takeda's i notice a lot of " moistured dust " sticked in the inner wall, you can even rub it in with ur finger lol .. However didn't inspect stillen's inner pipes tho, but i'm pretty sure it's less to no dirtier than takeda's

Note: i don't oil my K&n's ( before anyone comment on the dirty/brown water )

i currently have a gen 3 and a buddy has a takeda, to me the dual filters sound much better but the "fit" of the takeda pleases my OCD-ness much more than the stillen.

i'm going into any more detail for fear of a Stillen VS Takeda derail... so please dont..

thus creating the need for this thread...

Filtration efficiency on oiled filters, such as K&N, decreases if they are not oiled. The oil is supposed to catch the particles and build a layer on the outside of the filter, which actually makes the filter even more efficient. You would be better off oiling the K&N filters. The Takeda is a dry filter that is designed to achieve higher filtration without the need for oil. Neither filter will catch every particle and I don't see a way that this can measured visually.

The spot where you say the Takeda intake is trapping dust (the rubber elbow), is metal on the Stillen intake. This means that the dust particles won't settle there and they will go straight into the engine. This is one of the many flaws of trying to inspect filtration efficiency visually.

PS: K&N filters come pre-oiled, so you are seeing oil in your wash bucket.

^ i'm all aware of what you said above n was waiting for someone to comment on these points!

I'll start where you concluded. Yes it comes pre-oiled but i meant after first servicing/washing .. Never oiled them again and won't do it no matter what others say. Been using them for almost 4 years without re-oiling them, i had no issues what so ever and that's confirmed when i parted out my engine back on 2013 for my project, we found the engine was just fine, no signs for wears what so ever ..

Rubber vs metal and their affect on trapping dust .. Yes i'm aware about it already and thats why i said " i didn't inspect stillen's inners tho " but still confident if it's even having rubber hose i won't see that much of dust trapped in compared to takedas !

As long as you can fit them in the space available, it is entirely feasible and should cause zero problems

I'm willing to bet the single filter is to reduce cost, so you don't have to buy 2 filters.

Just wondering, how come you're so against oiling your filters? If I didn't oil my filter on my quads they wont even last a season.

I have always wondered about this very issue. However, Takeda's splash shield is designed for the single filter. I have it installed on mine and it's actually very robust and made of steel. I was surprised at how stout it was.

I'll subscribe for interest to see how it turns out though.

i'm not " so against " it at all .. reason i'm not oiling these is because i live in a very dusty/sandy area like i said before, now if i oil these they will trap dust/sand like anything, thus i will have to clean them every 15-20 days which is PITA .. what i did -however- is that i used to cover them with the BEST filter wraps out there.. Outerwears! ( ask GTR's fellas about them ) these -unlike K&n wraps- do not restrict air or drop power at all ( a third party dyno proven by Outerwears Pre-Filters for Gotboost 3-inch Intake System - gotboostperformance.com ) whom using these in their famous GotBoost 3-inch Intake system for GTR community. I would highly recommend them!

hope this helps ..
