How often does the throttle body need to be

cleaned on these cars?

and is it part of any of the scheduled maintenance?
i experienced a stalled start last night after having the car for a week!!!
Panicked and googled and it seems like this is a common issue for the VQ engines.
Car had all of it's scheduled maintenance done at the dealer and it passed the 120+ point Infiniti inspection (i didn't buy from them, brought it in independently as part of a pre purchase inspection)
Haven't had the problem since , though it's only been a day I guess. So i'm hoping it's just a throttle body issue!!!
I'm coming from a honda with 200k which to my knowledge ...never had the TB cleaner, so I'm kind of irked about this.

I called my local Infiniti dealer and they said it is not recommended to clean the throttle body, especially if you are not having performance issues.

Some people on this forum followed the DIY guide to do it and have had persistent idle issues and others have had to have the throttle bodies replaced.

+1. Did mine about 60k also they were extremely dirty and made a noticeable difference. I just used Sea Foam, then put the rest in my gas tank. Absolutely no problems and it is very easy just follow the DIY.

You only get throttle issues if if move the valve too much or disconnect the sensors. All i did was disconnect the battery. remove the intake, unscrew the 4 allen screws and it will come off (Dont disconnect anything else theres more than enough space to clean them). clean the parts close to the valve with Q-tips, and i did i throttle relearn before turning it on just in case (it wasnt needed though)

On my 2004 G35 I had the 30K throttle body service done at 60K then again at 30K.

Here in CA we have alot of additives on our fuel that are required for emissions, so it's needed.

They essentially put a hood over the intake and apply concentrated cleaner into the entire induction system.

It wasn't expensive to have done and I never had any issues with codes being thrown.

I keep a close eye on my air filters and replace them between 8-10k miles.

I've read too many posts of many screwing them up.
If its not broke, I don't fix it.

Thats like saying my car runs fine stock so i'm not going to make it better. Also the screw ups are made by uninformed people 9 out of 10 times. There are many reviews on it that you can get information on. Unless you dont like to DIY.

How are you averaging 24.59MPG for a G37S??? and why are you using 87 Octane? How is that treating your engine??? I'm curious.

I filled up on 6 May 2014 after driving 286 miles since the last time I filled up on May 1st. My G took 11.63 gallons to fill up again. 286 miles - by 11.63 gallons = 24.59 MPG

My G37S is a stick shift 6 speed manual

I also use top tier regular 87 Octane gasoline

Very well thank you.

Between the 172k miles that I put on my previous 06 G35 6 speed and the 39k miles on my current 2012 G37S the use of regular 87 octane has treated both engines very well.
I did a gasoline test back in April and May 2009 with my 06 G35
I used 91 octane for one month and 93 octane for one month.
There was no appreciable difference in performance and the MPG was worse.
I returned to using 87 octane and have now used regular for almost 250k miles in my two Infiniti vehicles. I also used regular in my previous 92 Lexus.

If you strongly feel that putting regular 87 octane in your vehicle is going to cause you to lose sleep, blow up and destroy your engine than you should not use it

Cheers

Telcoman, as much as I respect your opinion, testing and use of lower than required octane, I would still not recommend it to anyone.

Do you have access to an OBDII scan tool? I would be interested to read how much your ECU is compensating your ignition timing. The MPG increase you are seeing is probably because the ECU is forcing your engine to run lean.

^ please don't engage in another fuel grade debate. this topic has been beat to death on this and almost every other car forum. and Telcoman's beliefs are his to own, and have been shared too many times to count. whatever one chooses to feed their ride is their choice. take online opinions with a grain of salt. determine for yourself what the optimum plan that suits your car's needs is through actual research of technical sources.

I understand this and am actually not debating anything. I have read very carefully every post on nicoclub where telcoman was also. I read through the forums here and my question was very specific and has not been answered as far as I know. again, all I would like to know is how much the ecu compensates the ignition timing when running a lower octane.
