quick exhaust install question
quick exhaust install question
i am going to do my tanabes mufflers only this weekend. i know its pretty simple and dont want to pay a shop to do something that simple.
question is, will i be able to do this pretty easily without a lift and possibly even jack stands? all ihave to access is the rear 2 (or 3?) bolts on the muffler to mid pipe flange and the muffler hanger, right?
seems like this could be done in an hour at the most, even without jacking the car up (i have a sedan)

I've done it, you're going to want jack stands at the very least, or race ramps. There's not a ton of clearance, and the extra time you save by jacking the car up will be more than made up in the time and backache you'll save from not having to contort.
I am with GFN on this. I would invest a hydrolic jack and some jack stands. I got mine on Amazon for 150.00 for both shipped. It will save you in hundreds of dollars for installs down the road.
Just Curious, Are you staying with the original Tanabe style grapefruit shooters? (lol, at emoticon, Forum default must have put that there, should say grapefruit shooter plural)
I have looked into the Tanabe as well, but find the Exhaust ports to be too large vs. the sedan bumper. Wondering if anyone else has perhaps thought of modifying them to smaller or oem tip?

when I did my sport muffler I did not have to lift the car.
For me it was very easy to access everything, but my car is at stock height.
The hardest part was breaking the bolts lose and pulling off the stock exhaust from the exhaust hangers.
Just make sure you use wd40 to make it a bit easier to slide on and off. Def. save your money you can do it your self.

Yeah I plan on keeping the tanabe tips at least for now. Hopefully it's not too loud for the wife to notice right off the bat, what?
Have to slowly work my way in. By the time I have hfc or test pipes she will be used to the cat back

so i just took a break from work and climbed under there. looks pretty accessible. am i incorrect and saying there only appears to be a clamp tying together the mid pipe and muffler and then the rubber hangers at the bumper for the actual bumper? seems almost too easy
I haven't personally looked yet, but perhaps judging by this pic..

so i tried to pop those clamps loose last night with no pb blaster or anything. my socket wrench was just turning on the bolt head and rounding it off, so i stopped.
round 2 tonight i guess

Use metric sockets, and use 6 sided sockets. If you are using imperial or star sockets, you'll regret it....
