I know the pipe/flange that connects to the Y pipe is 2.5" but it appears to get smaller when its splits to dual piping.

What is the mid pipe diameter on each side of the resonators?

I don't think your right...look at the pic more...

The flange/pipe that bolts to the Y pipe is 2.5" and when it splits it gets smaller. Then after the resonators it's either the same size or a tad bigger in size.

Anyone know? My guess it's 2.5" where it's a single pipe then either 2" or 2.25" for the dual piping.

So the single pipe/connects to the Y pipe is 2.5"

then when it splits to dual piping it reduces down to 2.25"?

First picture "2013-05-06 17.27.17.jpg " is the pipe towards the y-pipe.
Second picture "2013-05-06 17.28.11.jpg" is towards the muffler.

It seems like its maybe a 1.75" inlet and a 2" outlet (ID) for the resonator? I don't think the piping thickness will differ that much.

EDIT: If you don't know how to read the caliper, the first picture says 2.003" and the second is 2.206". This is OD what really matters is the ID.

I measured the mid pipe when I got home with a tape measure. I agree with those numbers.

I have a exhaust depot Y pipe that's 2.5" OD, then the single pipe that's part of the OEM mid pipe it's 2.5" OD, then splits to dual 2" OD, then after the resonators going to the OEM mufflers it's close to 2.25" OD. I have a Tanabe axle back and it's 60mm which is 2.36" OD then the pipe right after the mufflers is 2.75" OD.

Reason I was looking at this so closely is deciding if a custom 2.5" mid pipe is worth it but the tanabe axle back exhaust limit to a 2.36" OD. You don't wanna go bigger diameter to smaller.

I'm not sure if it's worth going with custom 2.5" midpipe with vibrant 12" resonators. what do you guys think?

So what did you end up doing? I actually considering doing exactly that (tanabe y-pipe with custom 2.5 midpipe with vibrant 12" resonators)?

FYI - I have G37 Sedan RWD (my mid pipe options are limited).

The y pipe is slightly smaller than 2" where it connects to the stock cats

They merge into a 2.5" single pipe section then split back out to dual 2". The resonators are slightly smaller internally probably around 1.7" as mentioned earlier

Just for info sake the sedan actually necks down to like 1.4" internally!

Yep, I did some measuring after this post... Stock on my 2011 sedan is about 1.5 inches on the outside (going into the Tanabe Medallions). The TMs are 2 inches on the sedans (after the stock connection point)... So there some reduction there (couples don't have this restriction). I am purchasing 2.5 inch Vibrant Resonators (12 inch long, good reviews with TM) and have a muffler shop chop the stock Resonator out and extend the exhaust 2 inch to Medallions (ill have cut TM''s a little). But that should improve flow. I'll post dyno results before / after a retune.

Best,
J
