K&N Typhoon SRI

Hey Guys,

Just took the plunge and installed the K&N Typhoon SRI system last night. I did a lot of research on intakes for this car (I've done intakes in every other car ive ever had) and i came up with the K&N. The R2C was a sick product, but i dont think it justified the $. I have moderate-high mechanical ability, which you should keep in mind when reading this post. I own a 2012 G37 XS.

Purchase
I purchased the kit from autoshepherd.com. They seemed to have the best price, and they guy was EXTREMELY willing to work with me on the price; gave me $35 off, plus FREE overnight shipping. They were excellent to say the least, not even sure how i stumbled upon that company. The parts came in perfect condition, no missing pieces or any of that crap. It came out to $300, including shipping.

Install
The install was VERY easy. As i said earlier, i have a good deal of mechanical ability, but my friend who has the exact same car, ordered the same part, has little ability, had no trouble installing his next to me while i was installing mine. Directions were very clear anD concise, and of course it was a ton of fun! Overall, my intake took about 45 minutes, just from taking my time with the assembly. What i do recommend, that the directions do not, is to buy some Lock Tight or Thread Lock and goop it on all of those threads. We drive a luxury sports car, lets keep it that way

Product
The intake pipes are finished very nicely, no imperfections. Overall, the kit looks great. As far as the sound... OMG What a sound difference, especially with the stock exhaust thats on our cars. I have no interest in changing the exhaust. They sound absolutely incredible at high RPM, at low RPM, the car sounds normal, which IMHO is a good thing, sometimes you just dont want to hear that loud air rush into the engine. Very good product, very affordable, easy install, great performance.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Thanks for this write-up. I just bought my '11 g37xs two weeks ago and am contemplating purchasing this kit. I've never replaced intakes before, any other tips besides the Lock Tight/Thread Lock? How long did it take for your friend to install his?

congrats on the install, I too got these not too long ago and just like you, Im really impressed with these. The sound as you said, its just amazing, low revs and when you get on them..The instruction were ok but difficult since they were using a 370Z as an example but you got the picture. Im sure you had the issue the the air tube having to be cut in order to fit for the passenger side intake along with the engine plastic cover not fitting perfectly. Other than that, great intakes for the $, enjoy!

I did have the issue with cutting the tubing to the valve cover, not too big of a deal. The engine cover fit after a little man-handling, but overall i couldnt be happier with the outcome!

Other than using some sort of a thread-locker, just take your time. Its a relatively easy install, everything is right at the top of the engine compartment, theres nothing you need to remove to get at something else, etc... My friend, who again has little mechanical ability, was assembling his pieces while i finished up mine, and we both worked together to put his in. If you have no mechanical ability i would say set aside 1-2 hours just purely because you will probably be very hesitant to do the work. The air boxes, after removing the 1 bolt that holds each of them in, take a little bit of force to pull out of the rubber grommets on the bottom. Just take your time, figure out which intake system you are going with, and print the directions out before you get them. I will make you a little more comfortable after you read through them 2 or 3 times.

If you lived closer to me i would help you out, but you'll be fine. You can PM me if you want, ill give you my number, and you can call me if you have questions.
