Help Injen Short Ram Intake
Injen Short Ram Intake
Hey everyone, ive been looking around the injen short ram intake and i have a question about them, so hopefully someone will be able to help me out
So when i look at the intake, i happen to see 2 different pics of the intake, one which will replace the whole stock intake, and one that only requires to take out the airbox and leave the stock black tube with it. I prefer leaving the stock black tube of the intake on so its easier to intall and take it off, but can anyone take me the difference? Thankss
Heres a link of how the ones that im interestd in looks like: YouTube - Injen Short Ram Intake
and heres the one that ive been looking at on ebay:
INJEN SP SHORT RAM AIR INTAKE INFINITI 2009 G37 SEDAN on eBay.ca (item 260656695537 end time 26-Sep-10 17

first thing you need to do is forget about the one on eBay. It is scammer central for auto parts. I would highly recommend against getting anything for the G off eBay.
But you should be able to get the Injen with just the MAF forward pieces. There is actually someone selling a lightly used Injen SRI on here for a pretty good deal

ohh alrightt, thanks for the suggestion. r there any good websites that maybe i could order from? Since i live in Canada, i doubt anyone on here will be shipping up there. haha xD. So if i was to buy a whole set of short ram intake, is it possible to only install the MAF forward piece? and if not, do u got any place where i could order only that? thankss for ur help mann, really appreciate it =)
your best bet is the vendors on here...people from Canada buy from them all the time on here...plus a lot of the time you will get a forum discount
PM Lou@Amplified for pretty much ANY of the stuff you need performance wise. he will hook you up. Awesome guy too

alrighttt man! ill for sure PM him! umm, i was wondering if i was to switch the intakes, as a result, more air will flow the engine, so it will burn more fuel causing more carbon in the engine. will it affect the engine?
it doesn't really work as linear as that...you might be running a little lean (definitely will run lean with a CAI), but even that is not a big deal. If you get a tune that will be corrected but it wont hurt anything at all.
So short answer, no, you will have no problems like that.

Trending Topics
SRI = short ram intake. Typically filters are in the engine bay. Prone to heat soak. Easier to maintain but doesn't perform a well as CAI
CAI = cold air intake. Filters are typically directed away from the engine bay to breathe cold air = better performance.
Injen offers both CAI and SRI.

Justification is subjective but is there a performance difference between the two? Yes, at least for me there was.
Do a search for "injen dyno" in thread titles and you'll find a review I did on Injen's CAI with dyno charts.
SRIs in general don't yield much performance gain. Not to mention when the engine heats up, it'll be sucking up warm air.
Cold air improves performance, warm air degrades it.
Stillen gen 3 CAI is another crowd favorite.

BUT, many many and for very good reasons, believe that intakes for our car is pretty much for look and sound only. Not too much to gain out of it. For true performance mod, you'd have to look into forced induction.

Wow, I'm impressed. Now what about this mysterious 'tune' I see mentioned a lot. Doesn't the ECU (not sure I totally understand what it does) adjust for the different mix. Who does the tune, I don't expect the dealer is the place to go. Very G's in MN - that's good because we stand out but not sure where to have tuning work done. Will need to research further. Thanks.
Regarding the eBay auction, it says so right there "Pictures are not model specific, unless otherwise stated" so i wouldn't worry about the pictures not matching up. Back when i sold these things i couldn't open up each sealed box just to take photos, so i just posted representative images (or images of the boxes).
That said, i have the SRI and yes it does replace both boxes but retains the accordion part that attaches to the TB.
The filters sit right behind the grill/radiator, just above the air inlet for the stock airboxes. Truth be told i really haven't experienced any type of torque loss even when sitting in traffic in 105+ degree weather.
I have some vids posted if you're interested:
Before & After sound comparison
Road test
Dyno (please disregard the dyno plot, they messed up the run and stopped at 6.5k rpm).
A/F is normal for the SRI at WOT, per the dyno. As far as mileage gains? Per my post here, there's hardly any change.
The filters are also working well. I say that only because my UOA's all passed with flying colors.
