Stock y pipe?

Would there be any difference in sound and performance if I remove my stock y pipe, resonator and place it with a custom h pipe or x pipe setup? I really would love to keep the stock look.

The difference in sound would most likely be minimal, but there would definatly be some performance increase. The 2 most restrictive components in the exhaust are the cats followed by the y pipe. A custom X pipe would be cool and different. I don't think anyone else has done it yet.

you'll get better air flow but then you'll run into your restricted muffler...

Y pipe is a performance gainer already. many G35 guys are picking our Y pipes as a oem upgrade performance mod.

Just save up and get Fast intention exhaust or just add axle back muffler.

y pipe design and air flow is very good, mainly for bottom end.

Thx for the input guys. But should I consider x or h pipe setup if its done for a reasonable price? say like under 100? I guess I can always sell the stock y pipe setup.

Exhaust quoted me 125 to do a h pipe setup. Ill just save up get a real exhaust setup. But would have been nice to see if there was any kind of gains.

an upgraged y-pipe will noticeably improve your midrange power.

Contrary to what most people think, a few months ago I changed out my stock Y-pipe for an aftermarket more free flowing version. Results are not good. No seat of the pants gain in power. Felt like stock in the bottom end, mid-range and higher in the RPM range. Also, NO audible difference in exhaust note. Not even a little bit.

You're better off changing to HFC's if you want a better exhaust note while keeping the stock look, you will also gain a few whp.

Goodluck

Dan - I read your original Ichiba Y-pipe review. It was a pretty positive review. So after more time, would you say that the Ichiba Y-pipe is not worth the cost?

Definitely not worth it. In fact if you look for one of my other threads you will see that I sold the Y-pipe shortly thereafter.

I'm going to swap y pipes. I learned a lot from driver about y pipes. There's one y pipe out there that is oem and will improve performance.

I once sold it but the buyer is gonna sell it back to me. This y pipe is oem and has a larger inlet and outlets. It will improve low range and mid range and will keep oem top end.

Give me a few weeks and ill post up results and a review. I believe many will follow my lead on this one, depending on results.

Which OEM Y-pipe are you referring to? Your G37 already has the HR Y-pipe.

The other issue with the Ichiba Y-pipe is that it merges into a 3" collector. The OEM exhaust has a 2.5" collector. That abrupt transition is not good for flow.

What car is this other Y-pipe off of? Can you post comparison measurements?
