Just a quick review...

Background
This is my very first performance mod on a car (well, it's actually my second after BB's grounding kit ) I'm 37 and have loved cars for a long time but just never took that step. After a lot of thinking, I decided to go with a SRI as my first step. From my research it is easy, safe, cosmetically great, sounds great and adds some performance. I didn't want to go CAI given the added complexity, cost and risk (however minimal). When Injen came out with their new SRI's, I decided this was time.

Ordering and shipping

Ordered from Samantha at Amplified. Great experience start to finish. Highly recommended. Injen spends a lot of time packing the intake using lots and lots of packing paper and the box is sturdy and provides great protection. These were shipped from California to the east coast of Canada and looked great when they arrived... so far, so good.

Impressions out of the box

Injen's quality is perfect. Everything looked sturdy, well put together and top quality. Welds were great and the chrome was flawless. Quality is just top notch.

Installation

I enquired about this and was told it was easier than popping popcorn. Well, although that may have been a slight exageration, the process was SOOOO easy. I am a complete noob at this and it took me no more than 30 minutes (did it while my wife cooked supper ). Everything fit exceptionally well, the process was VERY easy, and the instructions well thought out. If anyone is concerned about install on this... just don't be... it doesn't get easier.

Initial impressions

Started the car up, checked connections... all secure and working great. Off I go...

Under 3.5k, the car sounds totally stock. I like that for cruising on the highway and around the subdivision where I live.

Once the car hits 4k or so, the rumble is VERY noticeable. It is absolutely intoxicating. In first gear, it rumbles so much around 6.5k that something in my dash (or in the engine compartment)vibrates!!! I love the sound. Took my brother-in-law out and he seemed impressed too.

I do notice that the car pulls a little smoother all the way to redline. No noticeable decrease in torque anywhere. I wouldn't say it is a huge improvement but seems noticeable to me (maybe just a placebo but who cares cause it feels goooood!).

I get home after about 25 minutes of hard driving. I open up the engine to make sure everything is still secure, etc. The first thing I notice is how cool the filter area is compared to the engine itself. The heat shields seem to work REALLY well. The metal (or aluminum or whateever it is) on the driver's side intake is actually cool to the touch! I would say that in normal weather and if you weren't spending hours at the track, heat soak is a non-issue with the Injen's and their well thought out heat shield.

Conclusion

Happy, satisfied, impressed... I am now a big fan of Injen, Amplified and modding in general. Now I'm off to research my next purchase!!

I just ordered these today from Lou/Samantha from Amp'd. I officially can't WAIT to get these...they've already been shipped and will be at my door Friday....and I totally never thought I'd do serious modding like intakes, etc. Lord....I need a night job now to pay for car toys. LOL. Thanks for the write up. Just a quick question....I'm assuming we need a metric socket set for our G's to remove the airboxes and rebolt the new intakes, right?

Congrats and great review. I am getting more and more tempted to pull the trigger on these. Pics and vids would be great! Also, maybe post back in a few days once the ECU has adapted to them and let us know if it feels any different or better. I've heard some intakes didnt feel the full potential until after the ECU adapted to them.

 

If gthal can't get around to posting vids/sound clips, then I can make an attempt once I get my intakes from Lou and get them installed this weekend. Will probably be Sunday/Monday before I can install and make vids. If anyone can get to this sooner, please feel free!

It's a 14mm socket size for the install. I also agree with everything the OP stated in his review. I've had mine installed for about 2 weeks now and I love them. Lou and Samantha@Amplified gave me a great deal too. I definitely recommend purchasing from them. I did post up a video of the Injen SRI in the intake & exhaust thread. Check it out and you'll see why these SRI's are getting such great reviews.

 

Thank you very much for the info. And I must have totally overlooked that thread, but then again my idea to install an intake only came this weekend, so I haven't spent too much time on the Intake/Exhaust thread. Those vids on YouTube were great man! The sound is exactly what I was wanting, and it looks like there ARE some gains to be made according to the Injen dyno. So, needless to say, I'm REALLY looking forward to these.
My only question I've come up with.....from here on, I'm guessing we must do hand details of the engine bay without much water (in order not to soak the Amsoil filters). Any other ideas of how to clean the engine bay if we have exposed air filters?
