Y-pipe & Service Engine soon light

As some of you may already know I did my first exhaust modification on the G37 last week and that was adding the Ichiba Y-pipe. I've been happy with it so far, but last night on my drive home I got the infamous "service engine soon" light. Checked my gas cap, re tightened.. light still on after a day of driving.

I have an appointment at my local dealer in about an hour or so but my question to you all is would the Y-pipe be causing this error?

I would hightly doubt it. Especially if the rest of the exhuast is all still stock. I probably wouldnt mention it first and see what they say knowing how some dealerships can be about aftermarket stuff.

I would try the ECU reset and see if it comes back on, but sounds like it's probably too late since you have appt with your dealer

hm yeah i wouldn't expect a light especially when you only changed the y-pipe in... that seems fairly odd... keep us updated on how the appointment goes... and don't tell them you have the ichiba y pipe in... they don't need to know

nope, you shouldn't... there aren't in sensors in the exhaust... there are o2 sensors on the cats though... i've had my borla for like 6 months now no light.

Alright, dropped off the car a little over an hour ago. They will be looking into it along with some other issues with the car I've noticed over the last few months.

I will keep you all updated.

Well if O2 sensors go off it's usually a CEL light not SES.

You know, I actually asked the service rep about that, and she stated that there was no actual CEL on the G37's just the SES light... I would assume she knows what she's talking about given the type of position she has, but then again who knows...

Anyway, I've never paid attention to all the lights when they light up at start up. I vaguely recall there being a little engine symbol which would stand for a CEL.

Anyone with some input on this?

that's what i thought too...with only the Y pipe there shouldnt be a light. I guess we need OP to tell us what happened later. Or maybe his engine does need a service?!

You should have taken by an Auto Zone or something. They will plug into your OBDII port and read the code for free. They can reset it if you like and then you can see if the code comes back in. Something like the gas cap not being tight enough will not reset immediately, usually takes x number of starts.

Eh, no worries. let the dealer read what the error is and let me know.

Thats nice of them, last time I brought the car in to the dealership they said if it was the gas cap + my error of not screwing it on tightly enough I would have to pay 75 bucks.... Also I remember seeing a CES light when i was trying the ecu reset, but i could be wrong

CEL's in other car is the same as our SES's. My HFC throws codes whenever temp drops below 40'. Only SES lights up, after reading and resetting the codes the SES lights disappear.

Oh guess i'm wrong hahah
but are you sure? Last time i was in for an SES the service manager told me not to freak out solid ses means it's mostly nothing, if it's blinking then huge problem. Or if I get the engine symbol.
