Question bout exhaust kit pricing

Is there a reason they are so expensive? I can buy an aluminized 5" exhaust with a 4" downpipe that's all mandrel bent from the turbo back for $400 yet I look at a 2.5" piped aluminized exhaust for our cars and it's dang near $1000. Let's not even discuss the stainless and polished stainless prices. I'm just curious as to why exhausts for these cars is so expensive when they are such a simple thing.

Import stuff is not cheap. You have to pay to play with the big manufactures.

You're in Texas plenty of exhaust shops will work with you on a custom job for a lot less.

I went custom for a great price and sound.

Where can you buy that type of system for that kind of money? I've gone to numerous shops in the Houston area and been quoted significantly more money for a lot less system that what you are saying. Don't hold out on us, because I'd rather have a custom cat back made for the type of cash you're talking about. What can you get an all polished stainless cat back with 4.5" tips for?

hes def talkin bout a american diesel truck...AWESOME!!!!

these import parts are expensive dude...it sucks...and the companies in USA that make our exhausts put a lot of time and R&D into these parts for our cars....its hard to make any type of power im assuming and these guys do a ton of work, and make em sound great...if you want american pricing on a exhaust magnaflow is really cheap for our cars, i have it and lucked out, it sounds great and its quiet......hope that helped..

Bingo. Summit racing has them along with rip at source automotive. 4" down pipe, 5" from there back, WITH muffler, and hangers, and clamps, $401 shipped. I know cause I bought one for my truck. Polished stainless 6" tip is an extra $65. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Hell, a dual 4" turbo back mandrel bent exhaust with muffler is only $466. http://www.sourceautomotive.biz/inde...emart&Itemid=1

And I'm sorry but an exhaust system is not a complicated thing. There's absolutely NO reason it should cost $1200. And I'm sorry, but an aluminized exhaust system is all you'll ever need. The only reason you need stainless is for show or you live in the ocean. That's it. And polished stainless is most definitely only for show. Especially on a car this low to the ground. I have a feeling that the only reason these systems cost so much is because they go on an expensive car and the companies know they can get the money for it. That's it. I'm just trying to comprehend this theory here as to why something as simple as an exhaust costs as much as the damn turbo on my truck.

Maybe I'll just buy some aftermarket mufflers and install them on our stock pipes or maybe have some mom and pop shop build me a custom set and see how much it costs.

I guess thats why the GTR exhaust systems are quadruple the price of ours

Well these kits are not even close to being comparable. Your kit is simply a few mandrel bent pipes and a small muffler. The import kits are polished, most include and X or Y pipe, mandrel bent, flex couplers, high flow muffler, and these kits have a lot more R&D than the Summit kit.

I don't give a damn. They are exhaust kits. The tubing is cheap (not assuming stainless cause it's a waste of money down here), the flanges are cheap, and there can't be that much R&D involved. Take the stock exhaust off and lay it on the floor, take the new tubing and bend it to match, put it up there, tweak a little here and there, add a few hangers, done. Now the mufflers I'm sure do take time to R&D to make them sound right on these cars and that I'm definitely not doubting. But even still, I don't see why these systems cost $1200+. Ever tried to mandrel bend 5" pipe and then make it fit over an axle and around a tire with only 5 1/4" of clearance? Let's not for the R&D on those mufflers as well.

Once I get moved in to my house and things settled at work I'm gonna start playing with the car and the exhaust is the first thing. I'm sorry but exhaust systems are not complicated. I don't care what anyone tells you. And I'll dyno before and after regardless of whether it helped, hurt, or did nothing at all and I'll post sound clips. I'm betting I can do a cat back for well under $1500 installed (I prefer the borla over the stillen).

I'm not trying to start a fight here, I'm just wanting to know the reasoning behind why and so far all I've heard is because this is an import, imports are expensive, and the pipes are shiny. Bs, bs, and why do I give a damn if it's shiny cause I'm never gonna see it.
