Officially starting my Holidays tonight so I decided to take some pics for fun.

Before heat wrap
Driving hard - the tubes felt very hot afterward, could no keep my hands on it for more than 5 seconds. Not sure how much the heat actually gets transferred to the air since it's traveling so fast. Still, I didn't like the fact that it got so hot.

Freeway - tubes were warm, I could keep my hands on it but not comfortably. The air from high speed definitely did a good job cooling down the tubes but the tubes were still a little warm to touch. I could not put my face on it. (no I didn't try)

After Thermal Shield heat wrap
Driving hard - very pleasantly surprised from the difference the heat wrap made. The wrapped tubes were COOL TO TOUCH. If anything, I can only describe it as mildly warm, I could've put my face on them, no problem. The shields were labeled to be able to block 90% of radiant heat up to 2000F, yes two thousand degrees, haha. I got the extra thick kind too.

Freeway - even less warm, not much to be said. Almost no trace of heat at all.


Conclusion
These were very easy to apply, took about 10 min to do both since the tubes were so short anyway. Cost 30 bucks. Not really sure if it made any difference in performance since I don't trust my butt dyno so I won't comment on that. But whenever I hear people talking about the heat soak on intakes like the JWT, I've always wanted to see if the heat wraps would make a difference. Found out first hand that they definitely do. Huge difference.

Btw, if you're interested in these, make soure you don't the heat wraps for headers and exhausts, those will keep the heat in as oppose to shield from it.

i wish my JWT filters were that blue..

 

question.. is it easy to pop the headlights open? I fear the shop im handing them over to might open them but not close them well what do you think?

You need to be very careful! I have had mine open and closed twice now to try and reseal them, i have ended up buying a new set (AFS!) for $500 which is a great deal but still I should have been more careful.

That is always a possibility. Make sure they have warranties against condensation, otherwise I would not get it done by them.

Speaking of a microcontoller thing, Ivorygt still hasnt gotten back to me on the IM 2.0, im going to hold off on the idea and spend the money on technosquare in january...

Nice, technosquare. I'd be interested to hear what they have to say about tuning the JWTs. Are you driving down or shipping your ECU?

im driving down around jan 9th, they are near you in Torrence. I wanted to have them do it while im down here now (Hemet - Riverside) but I couldnt bring down my car, esp with the lack of space for suitcases, guitar hero band equipment, and any gifts for Christmas!

They will do a dyno and then tune it. Are your exhuast tips black from the jwt? Mine are, which I have been told means im running too rich... which would mean there are gains for hp after a good tune.

The inside of my Tanabe tips have been black from when I had the stock intake too. But it'd be great if there's more potential for the JWTs.

So are you bringing down your ECU for them to tune and dyno on their car?

It's weird because Jedmonds has the same Tanabe and he has had no real black tips and he is on JWT's.

I am bringing down my whole car in January to get the TS done with a dyno as well.
