Stillen Exhaust Install and Review

I decided to try out the Stillen catback exhaust and it arrived today. I'll post up pics of how it was packaged, the installation process, and of the final look. Also, I'll try to make it back out to the dyno to see how it compares to the stock system and my previous setup, Magnaflow. The system arrived in two boxes. One for the muffler and hardware, the other for the rest. The boxes themselves were constructed like a crate and the packing inside was outstanding. This was by far the nicest item I've ever received that was shipped to me. First impressions are bi with me, and so far so good. Anyone that takes that much time to construct the interior of the box around each piece to ensure safe transit hopefully took the same care in designing and manufacturing the part. We shall see!

I doubt they make the boxes themselves.

I'm not so sure about that. I work at a place that does quite a bit of shipping of sensitive products and these boxes are absolutely formed at the ship site. Heavy duty staples, used on both the inner and outer flap form a crate style of box. Theses staples are set in place after packing. The basic shell may come from elsewhere but either way, it's a very costly style of shipping box and is damn near indestructible.

Sure bro! The total ship weight for both boxes is 51#'s for box 1 and 54#'s for box 2. Be aware though that this is not the weight of the exhaust, but of everything. I have weighed all of the exhaust components without the packing material and they add up to 62.4# including hardware. I'll weigh my stock system this Saturday and post up.

UPS bumps up the weight to charge a higher fee on oversized boxes. So even though a box may weigh say 35#, if it's over a certain dimension that's predetermined in the UPS shipping software, it charges for a higher weight to compensate for the size. Goofy but true!

As for the weight, it's heavier than the Maganflow to me by feel, but I don't know how it compares to stock. I'll have to weigh mine up this weekend out of curiosity.

The truth is that I'm whipped! My wife found the Magnaflow to be too loud for her tastes and she complained every time she got in the car. But honestly, I like to try what's out there and settle on the best setup for me no matter what the part. I've heard the Borla on my friends car, owned the Magnaflow, and now it's time for the Stillen. My hope is that it's quieter than the Magnflow and Borla and nets similar performance. It's a long shot but it really would kill two birds!
