Stillen Exhaust Install and Review
Easy gentlemen! Let's keep this topic on point for the poor bas*ard that will try to research this system a while from now!
True. This is not as bad as my wife makes it though. At least with my auto tranny, there is a drone if you're caught in the wrong gear. The auto loves to hurry up to 5th gear as fast as possible to save fuel and does this if you're driving at a slow to medium pace. When that happens, and you then need to accelerate, you're now in a mild drone situation between 1800-2800 rpm due to the high gear. I know, paddle shift down to bring up the revs and so on. But I hate compromise and I want to be able to drive the car the way I choose without any negative effect. The Stillen on a friends car, to my ears, sounded about half as loud as the Magnaflow and my hope is that the high gear drone will be gone.
Well just avoid rolling at 2000 rpm when your wife is around haha its the drone shes complaining about isnt it?
First the removal of the stock exhaust:
- Remove four 14mm nuts from y-pipe to catalytic converter.
- Push aside rubber hangers from resonator mounts.
- Remove four 14mm nuts from muffler to resonator.
- Remove four 12mm bolts from cross brace under car. Remove brace.
- Lower and remove resonator assembly.
- Remove rubber hanger from lower side of muffler, driver's side, with 12mm wrench.
- Push aside two top rubber hangers while supporting muffler. Lower muffler.

Installation procedure:
- Remove the vibration mounts from stock system. Six 12mm nuts.
- Transfer the three vibration mounts to the Stillen with stock hardware.
- Slide U-bolt clamp onto y-pipe passenger side arm. Slide arm onto y-pipe but don't tighten.
- Mount Stillen y-pipe to catalytic converters with stock gasket and the four 14mm nuts. Don't tighten.
- Place rubber hangers onto resonator assembly mounts. Mounting arms will be towards the ground, not the chassis to get proper clearance.
- Use Stillen supplied gasket and two 9/16" bolts and two 9/16" nuts to secure resonator to y-pipe. Don't tighten.
- Hang Stillen muffler with all three stock rubber hangers.
- Slide U-bolt clamps onto extension arms. Slide arms onto resonator assembly. Note: One is longer than the other.
- Use Stillen supplied gaskets and four 9/16" bolts and four 9/16" nuts to secure muffler to resonator. Don't tighten.
- Tighten all nuts and bolts starting at the catalytic converter and working back. Note: U-bolt clamps are 1/2" nuts.

A few more pics and I'll try to get a dyno done in the next week or two. Initial impressions are that the system is very well put together and is quiet. It's just a hair throatier than stock throughout the rpm range until you get towards the top. Then it has a really nice tone, but agian just a throatier version of stock. It's probably three times quieter than the Magnaflow in my opinion. Oh, and here are the stock exhaust weights:
Stock Muffler: 27.20#
Stock Other: 49.50#
Stock Total: 76.70#
Stillen Muffler: 29.70#
Stillen Other: 32.70#
Stillen Total: 62.40#
Total weight savings of 14.3#
Stock Muffler: 27.20#
Stock Other: 49.50#
Stock Total: 76.70#
Stillen Muffler: 29.70#
Stillen Other: 32.70#
Stillen Total: 62.40#
Total weight savings of 14.3#
