My Magnaflow Review

This is the size of the box everything comes in, was about 75 LBS.

To show you the way it's packed

More packing

more packing

x pipe with other pipes after removing packing

mid pipes, these had some dents in them, not sure if this is normal, but inside pipes was perfect, outside dents have no effect on internal piping

tips and clamps in bag

muffler assembly unit.

pic of magnaflow on car

shot of mid pipes

This is what I was saying about right tip sticking out about 1/3 of an inch more

A pic with car in the air

Shot of x pipe going into mid pipes

good clear shot of the X Pipe

And last but not least, the final product with right tip finally lined up correctly, SIGH!!

Video camera is widescreen and I think this is why my car looks like a bit scrunched up, LOL! This is just something quick I shot in front of my house, i will try to get a better video up soon.

Before I begin, this is my first review ever as it's the first mod I've done to my G, so bear with me and if I ramble too much I apologize I just want to give as much detail as possible. Also keep in mind that I did this in my garage on jack stands and with basic tools, I'm also not very mechanically inclined as you will begin to realize as you read what is about to follow.

Ok, now for my review. First off it took me forever to remove the stock exhaust system due to the bolts being torqued on so tightly I had a terrible time removing. In fact 2 of the bolts on the muffler assembly piece I ended up stripping and couldn't get out, had to drop entire exhaust in one piece and slid out from bottom of car, couldn't separate the pieces like I wanted due to the 2 bolts stripping in the muffler assembly unit.

Now to the installation of the magnaflow system. The x pipe was easy to bolt right up to the stock catalytic convers, no issues here at all. Then come the mid pipes, it took me a little bit to figure out which way they went and how to get them into the rubber exhaust hangers on the car, but after a bit of trial and error this wasn't to tough. Now came the part that really was tough for me, the muffler assembly unit. It's heavy and trying to connect it to the mid pipes wasn't too tough, the rough part is trying to get the muffler unit hooked into the rubber hangers, I struggled to lift the unit high enough to get them to reach and fit onto the rubber hangers, again it took much trial and error to figure out the easiest way to accomplish this. Once done here it was time to install the tips. I got them on, but problem was the right tip was sticking out about 1/2 inch more than the left one, other problem is I foolishly tightened all the clamps and bolts so I was unable to adjust the muffler assembly at this point to adjust the mid pipes etc. so tips would be even. So now I had to take everything off and loosen mid pipes etc., PITA to say the least but my fault for not realizing this and tightening everything without alligning tips.

So after re-doing everything again I realized the right tip was still sticking out a bit more than the left again, SIGH!!! Now it was only about 1/3 of an inch and I decided to just live with it. So now was my moment of truth, to fire her up and check for leaks. After starting her up and being amazed by the sound I was so crushed to realize that almost all the pipes with clamps were leaking, and leaking badly, I was pretty devastated at this point and couldn't believe it. So I figured I would take everything apart again and make sure all the pipes were lined up perfectly into each other, once again I had to take everything apart and start over, SIGH!!

After going through everything again I realized that this couldn't have been the problem, everything was straight and pipes were in as much as possible, so why the leaks??? I called a buddy who told me, when you tighten the clamps and think they are tight, tighten them more, and when you think you can't tighten them anymore, tighten them again. So this time I tightened each clamp until I couldn't tighten them anymore, and then I used my legs to put even more torque on the bolts and was amazed that they moved another good 2 full turns using as much force as I could. I fired my baby up again and to my amazement, no leaks and everything was right, except my right tip is still sticking out about 1/3 inch more than the left one, unless someone else that has this has a trick for me, I guess I'll deal with it for now, at least no leaks anymore.

Now for the first drive
As soon as I pulled out of my driveway and first began to accelerate I was instantly amazed at the power difference. The torque was very noticable, the response as well, without a doubt the car pulls harder across ENTIRE POWER BAN There is without question no loss of power down low, in fact there is a clear gain down low all the way up to the red line, and amazing differnce IMO.

The sound was louder than I thougt (this was my worry that it wouldn't be loud enough), even at idle you can hear it rumbling beautifully. But upon acceleration it just builds up into an amazing scream at the high end, I mean it was turning heads everywhere I drove, the stock exhaust didn't turn any heads. So to those of you on the fence that this system may not be loud enough, don't be, it is much louder than stock, not even close in fact. And for those that wondered if there was a low end loss of power, don't, there is no loss of power anywhere. The car now feels the way I had hoped it would when I first got it and was a tad disappointed in the acceleration, I feel like I have a new car with the acceleration I was craving. If I sound like I'm exaggerating believe me I'm not, there is a very noticable difference from stock.

I wonder if some of the others that did reviews a while back reset their ECU's, I did this before I ever turned it on with the magnaflow system, and the power gains were very noticable as I said across the entire power band.

All in all I am thrilled with this exhaust, my only concern is that damn right tip sticking out slightly more, maybe I'm just a bit picky but those things bug me. So for those of you that have the magnaflow on, let me know if you have or had a problem with one tip sticking out more and if you were able to correct it.

I will try to get some videos up over the next few days, I took before and after without load, but will try to take some under load with the magnaflow also and add them all to this review. I'll also take some pics so you can see or maybe not see the issue with my tips, it's dark out now and pic won't come out, so those will come tomorrow for sure.

Thanks!
Hope you all enjoy and if this was too long and drawn out I apologize!!

Nah, I should have, but I couldn't resist putting this on once it arrived, maybe down the road but after what I went through installing, I don't think I can go through this again, LOL!

No rasp at all, there was maybe a tad once I first started the car up, but for sure no rasp once it was warm, as for droning, none at all that I have noticed. I'm waiting for my JWT pop charger but am currently with the stock intake.

Just got back in, went out driving around because i am hooked on the sound of this magnaflow system. I did notice some droning around 2000 RPM in 6th gear, although I'm not sure if this is really uncommon as I believe it was even there even when stock, just not as noticable due to the stock exhaust being much quieter. I am almost never driving at 2k in 6th so it really isn't a problem for my driving style. The funny thing of it is, it really doesn't drone at 2k in any other gear besides 6th, even 5th it's really not there.

I'm not sure if people with other aftermarket systems have noticed it around that 2000 RPM range in 6th, but that is the only spot where the drone is. It's certainly not bad, or completely annoying by any means. It just seems that right at that 2000 RPM mark you hear it and then it's gone once you climb past 2500 etc. I'd like to hear some others chime in on this whether you have magnaflow or another aftermarket system, are you hearing this drone at 2k also??

You got it, I added pics to the original post, you can see what I meant about the right tip sticking out slightly more also, going to try and fix that right now. I hope to have some vids up within the next day or so.

Mine sticks out a bit further on the right side as well, about 1/8" and it was professionally installed by a buddy who said he's never done an exhaust that was perfect on, they're all a bit off due to the rubber hangers. Anyway, I like mine as well and can back up your power claims, it does seem snappier in the low end and screams up top. I do get a slight drone around town when it's bogged down a bit (mine is auto) but it's silent on the highway which is nice, the sound is always behind you after 65 or so...

Ya, I agree on the slight drone, but it only rears it's head around 60 in 6th, and it's only there when you really get on it, if just feathering the pedal it's not noticable at all. And as you say soon as you hit 65 there is zero drone at all, so cruising on highway is not an issue at all.

I just finished fixing my right tip, I had to loosen the muffler assembly unit and push it back as hard as I could, it moved about 1/3 of an inch into the mid pipe and I held it in as I re tightened the accu seal clamp. Sucker is perfect now, I will upload more pics in a minute, waiting for them to upload on photobucket

Can't really answer that because I haven't heard the Greddy in person on the G yet. I just uploaded a video, and have on other that will be up in a few minutes, problem is the videos don't capture the way the Magnaflow really sounds on the car IMO. I didn't realize how much different it would sound on video as compared to reality, now I realize what others talk about when they try to explain that the video doesn't do much justice to the sound of the exhaust, no matter what brand.
