Pass Inspection with CAI/SRI or after market exhaust?

Anyone ever have an issue passing an inspection having cold air or short ram intake or even after market exhaust?

Im in New York and unfortunately follow the same rules and Cali.

Aftermarket exhaust shouldn't be an issue, unless you're referring to the inclusion of high-flow cats or test pipes. Cat-Back exhausts do just that, run from the catalytic converter back.

Which intake do you have? If it's STILLEN they are all 50-state legal: STILLEN : STILLEN 370Z, G37, Altima, Maxima, 350Z and G35 Intakes are Now CARB and Smog Legal in 50 States

Don't have one yet which is why I am asking... Thinking of a SRI over CAI since it's a leased car and don't want to mod anything... I will look into the gen 2 Sri.

Gotcha..

Keep in mind if you do want the extra horsepower, the Gen 3's just have a small enlargement of a pre-existing hole in the composite core support. You can't see it when the stock intakes are re-installed.

We've had several customers that went to install a Gen 3 on their used vehicles, and the core support was already trimmed, and they had no idea.. lol

From: Framingham Ma,
Gen 3's do not do much, I had the dealer install mine .. On lease dont worry about modding it just keep all the stock stuff so you can put it back on when you turn the car in.

Well... Im not looking for huge gains alone but plan on getting exhaust and a tune later on... I just dont feel comfortable butchering the car for something that may give me a few more ponies over something that goes in clean and comes out clean... The R2Cs seem to get close to the Gen 3s... Anyone know how the Gen 2s compare against R2C or even K&N Typhoon?

Hopefully you're happy with whichever intake you settle on, but to clarify, I really wouldn't call it 'butchering', it's really just minor trimming. I know it seems like a harsh request to ask of an intake, but the hole in the core support already exists, this is just making it slightly larger to accommodate the tube.

If you didn't know what you were looking for, you'd never know the trimming had been done.

Well... your almost convincing me... Can you point me to some installation instructions OR video? I am fairly handy with the wrench and willing to tackle anything... Can this be installed without removing the bumper?

Installation instructions are located here: http://www.stillen.com/product_files/402846~inst.pdf

There is a video that's been on youtube for a while with a sedan install. It's done in fast motion and a fun watch. I will advise that this particular customer went to town with a Rockwell Sonicrafter, and the enlargements are a lot bigger than they need to be, and rough. But I'm sure it took him about 2 minutes.. lol

In regards to the bumper, yes it does need to be removed, but as you'll see from owners of this intake, once you take the bumper off once and get familiar with it, it's a 10 minute job doing it the next time, and nothing to be feared.
