I am interested, but I think the VLite may be all I need. What is the advantage of having the abilities of the stand-alone Android in the VLine?

 

The VLine vs VLite is that VLine VL2 also offers stand-alone Android interface, in addition to CarPlay / Android Auto. VLite is CarPlay / Android Auto only. With VLine VL2 Android interface you can run almost any Android apps on your factory car stereo, without the smartphone need, and are not limited to the apps available on CarPlay / Android Auto only.

I struggle to see the advantage of running apps directly on the stereo and not using my phone. What are some example use cases?

I do see now that that VLite isn't available for my car, a 2012 G37S Sedan with Nav. So, if I do take advantage of the group buy, it will have to be the VLine

 

Some people prefer the freedom of customization over what is already pre-defined with CarPlay / Android Auto. User cases include different car diagnostics / tracking apps, off-roading maps, and so on. In addition you can leave your phone at home, and still get the maps on your screen, and music (you need to provide the internet to the unit somehow).

Does the VT2 also allow display of Ecutek?

 

It will not display Ecutek as the app is not available for CarPlay or Android Auto. As VLite VT2 only supports CarPlay and Android Auto, and not the stand alone apps, it will display apps that are available on your smartphone and supported by CarPlay or Android Auto.

 

Does that mean the VL2 can support Ecutek as it can do stand along apps?
