sunroof drain issue

I have the sunroof drain puddle in the passenger foot area now too.

The problem is whenever I look up videos or posts about this, it's always extremely vague. They claim they will list the parts, but don't.. or they list the parts but leave out crucial details.

Is there a guide somewhere that has the ACTUAL part list, including the dimensions of parts needed? I need to know how much hose, which diameter, what other parts and what dimensions for those parts. I need to know fully what to do to apply the "permanent fix". If not, would someone please list things out here?

I'm looking to fix this ASAP as it's going to continue to be very rainy in my area and I need to drive in the rain around December 8th - 17th.

Thank You.

Here is from my post: Parts List and Another list

It was cheaper at Lowes to just buy the pre-packaged hose (20' x 3/8"ID) than "by the foot." As I did the driver-side drain as well it all worked out in the wash.

Also, check your cabin air filter as your cowl seals could be causing the leak as well.

Thanks a lot. I didn't come across this post. I think it's only happening on the passenger side. Do you have a guide that goes along with your parts list please?

Can't find all parts at Lowe's. I found this stuff at home depot:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-2-in-O-D-x-3-8-in-I-D-x-25-ft-Polyethylene-Tube-301844/207144259

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-8-in-x-3-8-in-Barb-Brass-Splicer-Fitting-800069/300096242

https://www.homedepot.com/p/SharkBite-1-2-in-PEX-Barb-x-1-2-in-PEX-Barb-x-3-8-in-PEX-Barb-Brass-Reducing-Tee-Fitting-UC363LFA/202270588

These are what is needed, right?

EDIT: I watched this video again and I think he used two tee fittings (3/8” all around), two straight 3/8" fittings, and some 3/8” hose.. and connected the driver and passenger side hoses to the AC drain hose: https://youtu.be/AzHZ928t5YE?feature=shared

Am I misunderstanding or is your part list different, where yours has tee fittings that are different on different parts of the T?

This is one of those projects where everyone has their own method to achieve madness. For me, it was easier to bypass the passenger straight to the AC drain and be done. I never had issues with the driver side (I bypassed it years later straight to the driver floor as a preventive measure).

That said, the parts list I provided are what I used for the passenger side. I did have to source the "T-fitting" from Amazon (or eBay) as none of the local chain stores had one in stock. Plus, Amazon is cheaper al around.

Your links are exactly what you need except for the PEX T-fitting. I would strongly suggest you try finding a barbed T-fitting (
Amazon Amazon
) as this will seal better against the inner wall of the tubing. You can try the PEX fitting but you may need to use some hose clamps to ensure a water tight seal whereas all you would need would be some zip ties. While none of this water is pressurised, you want a good, tight seal regardless.

Now, if you want to do both drains at the same time, then, yes, you would need the additional fittings.

I like Alex's (Kova-Motive) DIY as he essentially fixes what's already in place (cuts out the unnecessary baffle in the drain plug). His instructions are also on point. Shame that he sold his G.

Note that when I asked the dealership about this issue, they do not have a specific service, but will take $300 from you to blow compressed air through the drain tubes on both sides. Not sure why, but the passenger side seems to be far more problematic than the driver's side.

Yeah I'm finding that there's nowhere nearby that sells the 3/8 x 3/8 x 1/2 barbed tee fittings. It's all online and I need it ASAP so I can do the work this weekend. I have seen in comments that people get the 3/8" x 3/8" x 3/8" ones and just use hose clamps to attach it to the 1/2" AC lines. I was thinking of trying that method.

EDIT: I think I will try this way:

20 feet of new hose: 2x https://www.lowes.com/pd/EZ-FLO-3-8-...ing/1000365031

new barb connectors for connecting new hoses in A pillars: 2x https://www.lowes.com/pd/B-K-3-8-in-...ing/1000505013

barb t fitting 3/8" for connecting driver and passenger side new hoses to each other, then branch off towards AC line: https://www.lowes.com/pd/B-K-3-8-Bar...Tee/5001877037

barb t fitting 3/8" for connecting branched off hose to AC line: https://www.lowes.com/pd/B-K-3-8-Bar...Tee/5001877037

and hose clamps since there's a size mismatch on that last fitting

Well I did this on saturday the 2nd.

I used the parts described above and used hose clamps on the AC line.

The hardest part was routing the new hoses through.

Works great, thank you!

I'm going to pay someone to do the passenger redirect to AC for me... how much longer, or more importantly how necessary is it to do the driver side as well???

I'm not sure how common it is but I think if you're going to do it you might as well do both because the procedure will be fresh in your mind while doing it. If you do one at a time you may not be as familiar with removing the a pillar and other things like routing the hose. I don't think it's that difficult to where only one side should be done and I think the peace of mind not having to worry about it happening on the driver side is nice to have.

But also I think it's easy enough that there's no point in paying somebody else. If you can use scissors, zip ties, cable clamps, a screwdriver, and needle nose pliers You should be able to do this. The hardest part of the procedure was learning how to remove the a pillar but now that I know you just have to rotate the little green thing with pliers It's easy. The only other thing that was a little bit time consuming really was fishing the hose through. Because it would get stuck on things or maybe come out in the wrong place. It's really not that hard though.

Are those all the parts you purchased to get the job done? I am about to do it in 2 weeks and was looking for a parts list I could fetch online as well. Do you have a link to the hose clamps as well? And a link to the video you followed??

Yes, those are what I purchased.

I had these clamps from a prior purchase (when my PCV resonator broke I bought hoses and attached them to my intake with clamps):

Here's the video:

For the ones that are interested, I designed an adapter to connect the sunroof drail hoses and airco condensation drain all to one drain piece.
This can be printed by a 3D printer, see here.
