Help Power Seat Recline Won't Work
Power Seat Recline Won't Work
So like the title says I'm really at a loss at what is broken on my passenger seat. A while back a water bottle got wedged between the door and the seat and it held the recline switch down until the seat reclined all the way back and it killed the battery. I have since replaced the switch, relay, and reclining motor but it still isn't working. The switches on the driver's seat and the switch on the passenger seat that moves the seat forward and back work. Doesn't anyone have any ideas in what I could try? 2011 G37x Coupe
What relay? There is no relay for the power seat except for the seat heaters.
As you repeated press the recline switch, do you hear any type of noise (click/ hum) to indicate that the reclining motor is trying to function? Ot dead silence?
Did you check the passenger seat module for any signs of burning/ melting/ damage? The module is what sends power to the reclining motor when the switch is pressed. It is possible that something inside the module overheated as a result of the continuous power draw.

I think the module is what I was referring to. There is no sign of burning or melting anywhere on the seat and there was so smell of it in the car when i got back in it. I can hear the click of the switch but no hum of the motor trying to work at all.
The module is located underneath the seat itself- rectangular white, plastic box.
Put your ear as close to the reclining motor as you can. Press the switch in both directions, does the MOTOR make a clicking sound? Not the switch, the motor?
When you replaced the motor, did you ensure that there was free movement in the seat back? No binding or jamming?
At this point, you'll have to download the SE (Seat) section of the factory manual for your car from here. If you have a multimeter, the manual will show you what circuits to check for voltage. If you are brave, you can run a jumper wire from the battery directly to the motor itself to check operation. If the seat moves, then, likely, the issue is with the module or the wiriing.

The module is what I replaced then. I'll try putting my ear to the motor this evening to see if I can hear anything. The seat back would not move on its own unless I pulled the latch that is there for when people are getting into the back seat. Then it moved just fine
