R8 Coil pack for G37?
Hey guys, there's a forum online somewhere about the Audi R8 coils giving proved gains on the dyno, more horsepower, better mpg.. etc... I may need to replace mine as my car is passing 105k miles.. Does anyone know if this is an upgrade for the G37? The forums online were about the vq35 engine, but I wonder if they're still a feasable upgrade for the g37?

Im asking this same question!
Had one of my stock coils fail,Bought a cheap replacement at the corner store just to keep on the road.
figure it's time to replace the whole set, as the others are the same age/milage.
Always looking at upgrades, so I saw the buzz about the R8 coils.
There's a head to head showing our coils vs audis in a vq35.
And the vk motors (plus a few four bangers).
But nothing specifically about the vq37hr.
im assuming we need pigtail adaptees for the harness, but which one(s)?
Maybe longer 10mm bolts.
Anything else? Adapter plates???

The coils are proving to live up to their name mainly due to the fact that they are 4 wire (uses an additional ground). It would be the same as adding toyota yaris coils which have been proven to support 1000k + whp. In theory any 4 wire coil should provide improvement over the stock however with the new Hitachis an Hansin coils the differences get minimal. This is why any newer coil is an upgrade for these mid 2000s cars.
It'll just be a matter of time until someone tries it. I'm a wiring guy so once I find the proof I will be pulling the trigger on them.

Do they have a different dwell time than the oem coils? How is that being accounted for?
Did the same with the RX8 - oem mazda coils were always marginal so swapped to LS2/Delco 585 coils, made a bracket and harness adapter. But had to tweak dwell in the ECU or they stuttered badly.

"All my audi coil plug and play wire harness Adapter posts have it all explained: -Our Stock coils are single coils which produce 30,000 Volts. -Audi coils have a built in dual coils which produce 50,000 Volts. -They improve Startups. -Better Idle. -They create hotter spark within higher Voltage for better fuel & air mixture burn. -Which in return makes more power and better fuel economy if you can stay off the Wide Open Throttles. -For the performance guys. -The more boltons you have then more gains you will get from them. -Audi coils body is made out of Metal and designed to extract heat quickly, VS the stock coil thats made out of rubber which holds the heat in. -As far as Coils NGK Audi Coils seem to be what many say are Better made then Audi originals. -This is a install and go Mod upgrade. -For best Power Gains and MPG's Uprev tuning is recommended. - Audi coils are designed to go over the entire spark plug and to lock in place. -They do NOT require the 10mm bolt like our stock coils. -Our stock coils do not go over the entire length of the ceramic body of the plug. Only the top metal connector. -There for Nissan had to bolt them in place so they don't come off."
He's comparing to the stock Titan coils of course.
Bonus, he sells the coils and the wiring pigtails. If anyone wants to look him up through FB

I saw this, if you believe it then you would stay with stock. There is a guy though that says the R8s are great for his car, but he has a Q45 not sure how much of a difference that makes.

So my car has only 207k on it, should I replace all the coils or perhaps just the lower boots? Any thoughts on this? Where is the best place to get a deal on the coils?

I have heard that the R8 coils are better, but I know they don't have a bolt hole to lock them down. Are they about the same size? How do they fit? For me I am looking at the HANSHIN vs HITACHI, I have found people selling the "genuine nissan coils" on ebay. They say HANSHIN on them. People have said that the HITACHI are factory. But mine look like they are HANSHIN. One thing I worry about is getting phony coils. When I see NISSAN coils for at least 2/3 less than what they are on Discount Nissan Sites, I have big reservations. Being the the HANSHIN are made in China, Nissan Charging over $100 a coil is a serious rip. I have found the HITACHI for 58.50 each.
I am planning to get my plug/coils installed by a shade tree. I did have a spark plug that I guess I didn't torque down enough that caused a coil fault. I would rather not have that happen. I now he would rather see me use factory. I doubt he would be happy if I brought over the R8 coils and the adapter to plug it in. As I mentioned the adapters are 175 for a set,
