Real license plate screws
I just bought by G37 a few weeks ago, and finnaly put my official plates on. Decided I wanted to take them off again, and take off the dealer frame off. Now the screws spin, but isn't coming off!! It literally spins endlessly and isn't coming out. I could feel the back peice not moving, but I think there's a small piece with in the back peice that is moving when ever I try to spin the screw out. Does anyone know how to fix this issue. Honestly a 2 min process that has now taken me over 2 hours to figure out.. what a pain. Ideally something cost friendly, I can't imagine this being too expensive or a fix, atleast I hope not
But I can tell the back side isn't moving. It's the thing with in the back side mount that is spinning with the screw! I know my explanation might not be sound, but I'm assuming you follow since your a fellow G owner
As recommended I did take it to the dealer. They took off the bolts by chopping the screws off and fixing the piece behind it, free of charged. It took roughly 30 min, but was great to finnaly get it off. I tipped the guy because it was finally a relief to get it fixed. I'd look on YouTube for A Nissan Murano with license plate stuck video. That's exactly what the guy at the dealer did
If it uses the same setup as the sedan, this is what I did with my sedan...You will need to bend the plate up and from behind the plate try to keep the nut in the mount still while you unscrew from the outside. The mount uses a plastic tab to hold the enclosed nut. You will need to break that tab off so you can jam a screw driver or get a vice grip on it and then you can turn the head from the outside. Get on your back and you will see what I'm talking about. I had to do this in a parking lot when I bought my car....you will need to buy a new license plate mount off ebay.

Maybe too late for the OP, but not too late for anyone else. This Nissan part number for the replacement "J" or "U" captivated nut clip (called a spring clip) is 01241-00881. About $1.35 at your local Infiniti dealer. It sure beats having to purchase the whole license plate housing.
