I have this loud hollow like sound when the engine is in idle. I noticed it more when the a/c is off it gets louder, but when i turn it on it gets quiet but you can still hear it .

It can possible be a pulley or a belt that is creating a noise.

 

An accessory bearing. Water pump, alternator or A/C compressor. Do we have an idler pulley? It could that, too. My opinion, anyway. Place a very long screwdriver against each accessory and your ear against the end of the handle. It'll be obvious which one is the culprit.

 

thanks for the input guys, i replaced my serpentine belt and checked the bearings. looks like my a/c compressor is going out.
