Has anyone had their steering wheel switches replaced?

For a while now my cruise control hasn't been working. When I turn it on the "cruise" light comes on and the "set" light flashes. Occasionally it will start working again, and someones the "cruise" light won't even come on. Then I noticed some of my other steering wheel buttons are being flaky too. The volume control doesn't work most of the time, etc.

I took it in to the dealer for diagnosis. $130 later they tell me I need to replace the steering wheel switches (2). The part number is 2550-JK12A and it looks like they are around $225 each. The dealer price out the door was $745 and they'll credit me my $130 diagnosis fee.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had to replace these things? It seems like a good chunk of the cost is in the parts. I'm not sure I'd want to mess with the steering wheel myself, but I was hoping to figure out a cheaper way to do it. For the $745 full price I probably won't have it fixed (for now)

Go to an online OEM parts vendor like infinitipartsusa.com and buy the parts cheaper than your dealership will sell them to you for. Install them yourself (not particularly difficult).

Thanks for the info. I'd love to do that. I've done a quick search for installation instructions but didn't find any. Do you know of any links to decent instructions? I'm not too mechanically inclined but I can turn some screws. I don't particularly want to deal with the airbags, so I hope it doesn't involve them.
