Ethanol free gas is better. However depending on where you live it may not be available at all. It's not in the Houston area due to air quality regulations.

I just saw a report on the news that Race Trace is starting to carry it in some areas.
Of cost it cost a lot more

It makes me wonder about that rate if it's not premium would it still be safe?

It's not better than ethanol-spiked fuel, per se, for a daily driver. Ethanol offers reduced emissions and is cheap octane improver. Ethanol-free is better for performance, though. Ethanol is already partially burned so it reduces BTUs available to push against the piston.

So if I have a choice...
Go with the Ethanol-free?

No track,

I was really thinking about it from a cleaning point of view.

I was just thinking about a tank every other month or so

You want good fuel-system cleaning, buy name-brand. Chevron uses Techron which is sold separately at autoparts stores.

Nothing wrong with Techron, but if you'd just buy your gas from a Top Tier rated gas station, you won't need additives.

I'd try to explain it, but in person people usually give me a blank look when I try, so I'll link the Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Tier_Detergent_Gasoline
I've used QuikTrip gasoline nearly exclusively for 20+ years. They have always added additional detergents, even before Top Tier became a thing. Its not simply another marketing gimmick as QuikTrip gas is usually the same price, if not lower, than a competitor across the street who sells the EPA detergent minimum fuel. If there is a Top Tier rated station near you, my advice is to use their gas. Ethanol too.

Top Tier Gasoline

I'll admit,
I was like whaaaaa when I found out about Quick Trip

This was days after I saw a DB9 filling up there.
It's something I really need to re think.
They always seem to have the best price on gas and they are everywhere.
Not too mention a few years ago when there was a gas shortage (Yes I'm talking about gas lines and or no gas at all) a few years ago. QT was the only one still open and still selling gas. Of course it was only REG. but it was still gas.

Top Tier. Yes, thanks for that. It's what I meant by name-brand. That said, I don't believe there are Quick Trip stations in the Houston area.

I just busted out my Google-fu, and sure enough, Quick Trip is a Dallas-Ft. Worth phenomenon. Regardless, look for Top-Tier stations. Y'all remember Shell's big marketing push last year about the nitrogen they added for extra cleaning?

for those that r worried about and pinch every mile out of a gallon of gasoline, ethanol blended fuel contains less energy which means less mpg. ethanol blended fuels was pushed by tree huggers and money fleecing politicians to market supposed cleaner burning fuels. gas stations in California are required to label their fuel pumps if they sale ethanol blended gasoline.
