Only one key. . . .can I copy the valet?

Hi everyone! I just purchased my 09 and unfortunately they only had one key. I am looking into purchasing a second key fob but was wondering. . . would it work if I just took the physical valet key and had it copied at Home Depot?

You can on a 2009. But why would you if you could get one cut to fit into your I-key?

I'm confused. . . . I am looking to have a spare key for emergencies. I have a fob with the valet that goes inside of it. My question is about the valet portion. I just want a second key to be safe.

Now that I think about it. . . . .this won't work because there would be no way to start the car. . . .LOL

He doesn't. The whole point of a valet key is to lock the glove box, give the valet the fob, and keep the physical key. He can start the car with the fob, but cannot pop the trunk or open the glove box.

Inside the glove box there’s a button that prevents the trunk from opening. So if you lock the glove box as such with the hard key, no one can get into either the trunk or glove box as long as you take the hard key with you. That’s the whole principal behind the valet key concept. The only thing they can do is drive your car around and steal anything you left in view.
