I leased my G about 3 months ago and now have almost 4k miles. When should I go in for my first oil change and is it recommended to go to the dealership for this?

 

i got my first oil change done at 3400k. dealer recommend is 3750 or 3 months but i hit 3 months before the mileage since i don't drive it as much. since its your first oil change i say do it as soon as you can. my first oil change was free complimentary of the dealer.

 

You should get it changed. Take it where ever you feel comfortable taking it. Where have you had your oil changed in the past? I'm sure they could do a fine job with the G as well.

 

Tomorrow. Some dealerships give you a free 1st oil change, others dont. Where you go is up to you and where you go might depend on what oil you use.

There are a lot of wear metals early on, so while the car is breaking in, I would do roughly 3750 oil changes and once the car hits 15,000-20,000 miles, you could go to longer OCI's and use schedule 2 maintenance of 6 months or 7500 miles as long as you are using an oil which can stand up to 7500 miles.

If you are using the regular dealer oil or Nissan ester oil, then stick to 3750 oil changes.

 

I say, if it's leased, why care?

Change it every 5k miles if you want.
It's not going to be your vehicle for longer than the lease unless you purchase from the dealer after lease.

I would treat it like a rental.

 

I read on auto repair that Infiniti does not recommend changing to synthetic oil until your car has reached a lot of mileage on it. And if you do,early switches would cause oil leaks with the engine. Is it true?

 

They may even tell you something like this, if you do early switches to fully synthetic, you will ending up blowing your engine and void your warrenty... Don't listen to them, it just fine. no need to be worry.

 

They tell you that to keep you using The Nissan Ester Oil. While i always wait until the first interval to change to synthetic (ie i leave the factory oil in for ~3000 miles) there is absolutely nothing wrong with switching to full synthetic right away

 

It's not a requirement to use ester. I'm using Pennzoil Ultra now that I hit 7500 miles.

 

Oh absolutely not, that's just why the dealers like you coming to them, so they can charge you for it.

I have gone back and forth between Mobil1 and Penzoil Ultra, I like Ultra more, but I go 10,000 miles between changes with both of them

 

Funny I talked to my dealer last week, asking how much an oil change for my 2011 would be. I asked if the price included Ester, he said they dropped the requirement for 2011.

Ive read the owners manual and it never looked like it was a requirement for any year

Ive heard that both Pennzoil Ultra and Valvoline SynPower are rated for fulfilling the Nissan Ester requirement (per Pennzoil and Valvoline). Since Nissan Ester is just dino with an ester additive, my guess is that the additive packs in Ultra and SynPower contain similar (or maybe even the same) esters.

I wish my local Advance Autos carried Ultra instead, but I got a sweet deal on a lot of SynPower 5w-30 (5 gallons for 64.00 before 20.00 rebate).

 

lol I bring my own oil and filter. The dealer charges me $15 to change it. That was the cost of my 7500 mile service. Not including the $35 or so for oil and filter.

 

How many quarts of oil does our car use? And does it make a difference on what brand of oil filter to use? if so any recommendations.

 

About 5 1/8 with a filter change.

Like everything in this world, all oil Filters are not created equal. Personally I use Wix.

 

^^ theres a huge oil filter thread on how crappy oem nissan ones are, i use K&N because of easy of use (they are as good the purolatorONE's which i hear are the best out there) because of the welded nut on the top. PureONE, mobil 1, K&N are all the same filter with a different name, get K&N, i hate oil filter wrenchs are the nut makes life so easy
