A G37 owner got into an accident recently where he rear ended a car in front of him. The driver's side airbag came out. The damage wasn't too substantial, just needs the bumper repainted, so he wants to fix it via body shop by paying cash and not handling matters through insurance. He had already purchased new airbag to replace his old one. When he purchased the airbag, the seller advised him he should get his airbag module replaced. I just want to verify for the guy if this is mandatory in the process of returning the vehicle to original state. If someone out there knows, can anyone help out? I've done a search but resulted to nothing helpful.

 

Yes, when an airbag blows, fuses in the module also shorts. If you want to save money, you can send in the unit to be reset.
