You should definitely try this if your are already used to the clutch travel. What this does is just keep the pedal from going all the way to floor. So your still doing the same thing but pushing the clutch just enough to disengage it.

the clutch rattle is also very annoying, my friends M3 has NO clutch rattle what so ever and one would think that car would have it.

I think this is the last thing I'd try. I can't stand the mechanical gridning noises the clutch makes as it is. I don't want to add to it by trying to shift oh-so-perfectly as to not need the clutch.

For those that have done the clutch pedal mod (we're getting OT here...)is there more take up slack on the pedal? It would seem that if the engagement point moves down towards the floor, that the pedal would have more slack...a little like a sloppy trigger on a gun.

Exact opposite of what you are thinking, it's taking all the slack out of the engagement. Like a 6 lb. trigger pull in a H&K.

If you do it right there will be no noise at all.
and it is not like that you do it oh-so-perfectly
it is more like you wait and feel the openning of the gear box.
when rpm match with your gearbox and your speed it can be done without any effort.

is it bad for the gear box to shift w/out clutch?

its a tough car to get good smooth 1-2 shifts even if you have manual experince. I've gotten much better but if you are lax you will jerk.

Like BB ride it just a little then easy it out seems to work.

it is HORRIBLE to shift w/out engaging the clutch. Yes, of course there are those who can do it and can time it perfectly and cleanly. however, most (and I mean MOST) people wont be able to do that and it'll grind the gears and eventually lead to you needing new hardware all throughout your transmission and engine. It's not worth the 1/2 second you save by engaging the clutch to shift w/out it!

WITH cluch = shift faster engage anytime you want
without cluch = you have to wait until rpm matched with your gear

If you know about engage point without cluch you will be much better when you using your cluch and understand more.

I have brought up the shifting without using the clutch pedal issue several times. The majority opinion (although grossly misinformed) is that it is horrible for your clutch, transmission, synchros. This is patently false. I have done it for years on various different cars and trucks with no ill effects. I sometimes do it on this car and all is still great so far at 45K. I had a car with over 200K on the original clutch and transmission. That's right, 200K miles on the original clutch. I shifted the way all the time in that car, it is the car I learned to do it on. However, the masses cannot be convinced that this is true so I won't continue to try, there's not point in me doing so. If someone could please simply explain to me why they so adamantly believe it is harmful to the car, I'd be willing to listen. Please provide your personal relevant experience to back up your claims that it's harmful.

BTW, the '92 Nissan Stanza is my nephew's car now and has over 230K on that same clutch.
