I don't believe anyone will have an oil related failure by doing this oil change schedule. I've personally never heard or read of one if these engines failing or even having any issues related to long oil change intervals.

However, Ahujadaddy's advice is valid; save all dated receipts and keep an accurate and consistent log of oil changes as proof the maintenance was performed if you do it yourself. Keep a log in your service manual or on a spreadsheet. Infiniti has a regular and extreme schedule for oil maintenance, the regular one is every 7500 miles I believe and extreme is 3750. Should you go beyond that you may be in a gray area; I can't say how Infiniti will view it. But as I said, it's my belief that it won't be an issue because your engine will not fail due to lack of oil maintenance. Should you have a different engine issue, I don't know if Infiniti will try to use the oil change schedule as a scapegoat.

I am NOT a professional mechanic. I don't speak for Infiniti. These are just my personal beliefs and practices based on my experience of about 18 years owning, working on, and maintaining various Nissan/Infiniti engines successfully.

i ran nissan ester for the first 5000 miles on my car. i changed out at 2154 and 5044. now im running motul 300v which is 1 of the best full synthetics out there. i plan on changing it out every 5000 miles although i can probably go longer. i also just sent off my first 2 oil changes for oil analysis and will be doing the same for the motul at the next change. ill be sure to post up.

so ya, extend to 5-6k miles with no worries.

I use AMSOIL 5W30 and their EaO line of filter.
I change my oil every 11250 miles or once every year (3750 x 3) even though they specified that you only need to change the filter once a year. Under normal service the oil lasts more than 25k miles or 15k miles on severe service (FI) cars.

Oil Life Monitor

Guys - I'm currently at 2,800 miles and about to do my first oil change. Do these cars have an oil life/change monitor/indicator, and if so, is there anything I need to reset on the onboard computer after performing the change? (Nothing's popped up yet).

Thanks in advance.

Yes. It's in the information display in the middle of the gauge cluster. There's only 2 buttons. it shouldn't be hard to figure out how to cycle through and reset it. Also on your nav display under maintenance settings.

Wow, thanks for the quick response! So I guess it's just resetting the interval - no adaptive monitor a la BMW?

Nope. It's just a counter, it doesn't monitor anything except your mileage since it was last reset.
